Australia's very short-lived TNC -- The News Channel, 1995:

The channel folded after a few weeks after failing to attain wide distribution. Note a familiar CNNI personality in the clip.

Wow. I mean just wow. Are we sure that isn't from 1985?

BBC World was definitely a lot more 'current' in 1995, at least in design terms :

As for the trails. It's like Australia was about to become a new state in America. Just so American it's untrue.

I would say that Ten's news promos from that time were even more American-looking:

Can just imagine the meeting that came up with that... Horrific.

Today, the Belgian channel Canvas (the BBC Two of Flanders) is refreshing itself. The news outlet changes, the main news programme Terzake (comparable to Newsnight) moves from 8pm to 10h45pm. At 8h30 pm a news interview, De Afspraak is being shown.

This was the old look, in which all the news shows on the second public channel came from one studio:

This is the new one of Terzake:

And the new studio for interview show De Afspraak :

Today, RTL Nederland launched RTL Z as a separate 24/7 news channel, the first in The Netherlands. RTL Z will primarily cover business and financial news, but also politics, tech and innovation. During daytime, the channel will not differ from the programming before (news bulletins and stock exchange updates). RTLZ had a 08:30 - 18:00 block on the RTL7 channel.

The evening programming is as follows:
18:00 Z Today (news show)
20:30 Z Doc (documentary)
21:30 Van Liempt Live (talkshow)
22:30 daily magazine
23:00 Z Talks (TED talks and similar)

On the new website, rtlz.nl, the new bulletins can be seen.

I believe KPN and Ziggo are carrying it, and also its available in HD on channel 731 apparently.

I'll check it out when I get home from work later on.

Isn't NPO Journaal 24 a news channel already?

Isn't NPO Journaal 24 a news channel already?

True, but RTLZ wants to be more like a Sky News Channel or a BBC News channel, while NPO Nieuws (formerly Journaal24) is just repeating the Journaal broadcasts of the conventional channels (NPO 1/2). RTLZ has its own studios, a new talkshow and is visible in the 10-15 range of your remote control, while NPO Nieuws is at 42 at my place.

Wonder if NOS/NPO are considering improving NPO Nieuws and start a competition Wink

The design team at Danish broadcaster DR have put together a compilation of graphics from their election coverage earlier this year. Some of this stuff has already been included in earlier montages, but always worth a look given their quality!

Der Abend, n-tv; Germany, 2006

At this time they've changed their virtual studio design at least twice a year, but it always looked very cheap.
