With regards to the French presidential election and TF1, there are some funny tabloid reports in the country suggesting that Laurence Ferrari and Claire Chazal had a falling out last week, as Claire won the right to announce the result of the election tomorrow evening, instead of Laurence! Laughing

Meanwhile, AlJazeera Arabic launched some new graphics this week, interestingly just before the launch of Sky News Arabia.

BTW, does anyone know why RTL Radio has teamed up with TF1 for this election instead of with M6, almost half of which is owned by the RTL Group? I know that TF1 is a much bigger network, but I thought M6 is determined to become a major player in news, so it can't be happy with RTL Radio's decision, can it?

Well here's something - Belgian broadcaster RTBF has published unconfirmed results for the second round of the French presidential election from the overseas departments on its website - http://rtbf.be/

As far as I understand it, results and their publication are governed by French law, hence the countdowns for the exit poll.

It's a bit cheeky to say the least, isn't it?

Elections in France on Wikipedia suggests this is common:

Elections are always held on Sundays in France.[1] The campaigns end at midnight the Friday before the election;[2] then, on election Sunday, by law, no polls can be published,[3] no electoral publication and broadcasts can be made.[4] The voting stations open at 8 am and close at 6 pm in small towns or at 8 pm in cities, depending on prefectoral decisions. By law, publication of results or estimates is prohibited prior to that time; such results are however often available from the media of e.g. Belgium and Switzerland, or from foreign Internet sites, prior to that time. The first estimate of the results are thus known at Sunday, 8pm, Paris time; one consequence is that voters in e.g. French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe knew the probable results of elections whereas they had not finished voting, which allegedly discouraged them from voting. For this reason, since the 2000s, elections in French possessions in the Americas, as well as embassies and consulates there, are held on Saturdays as a special exemption.

BBC Parliament is showing French coverage of the elections for an hour, starting at 7pm. I'm guessing it will probably be the coverage of France 2, since it is the main public broadcaster in France. No further information has been given though.

Strangley last time it was a combination of France 2 and TF1. Looking forward to gasping in horror as the papparazi and TV cameramen race round the new president's car on the back of a motorbike whilst desperately trying to take a snap of him.

Interesting that they mix the two. It's the first French election I've really followed with interest, so I'm really looking forward to French and English coverage here in the UK on the BBC. I'll be glued to BBC NC and BBC Parliament tonight!

Can we safely say that Jon won't be punched by Babs tonight, therefore? LOL.

I think last time it was a longer broadcast than just an hour so I expect we'll just be seeing either France 2 or TF1. It was a very strange set up last time. I seem to remember they would randomly end one broadcast, stick a slide up of the two channel logos with the presidential building or something and then pretty much crashed into the other feed.

I take it we'll be simulcasting right? Interesting choice to have Babita as anchor in London. Maxine Mawhinney currently on BBC NC. Let's see what happens!
