I recently posted a description of TV Patrol from a book written in the early 1970s. Do you know if there are any clips from that era online?
Speaking of British news themes being used abroad, here is a 1979 news special from CBC in Canada using the BBC Panorama theme (actually a French movie score called Aujourd'hui C'est Toi ):

The Day in Events,
local news from NTM from Yaroslavl, Russia, with
some rather rememberable and well-known
music (and also the TOG and round table, but from other source).
Although this is a recent opener, the uploader needed to record it on VHS to put it on the Web, so pardon for the quality. And of course, for the video server - there really was no need to re-upload it.
