I find the addition of that brief glow quite sad. It shows the desire to improve and somehow make good is there but is woefully ineffective and misdirected.
Deckchairs on the Titanic.
Deckchairs on the Titanic.
The glow effect is totally pointless. It adds absolutely nothing. In fact, it probably makes the whole thing look even more amateurish.
It's just a late afterthought to add an extra embellishment to what is a thoroughly mediocre set of idents. As has been suggested, it fails miserably and its inclusion just appears desperate.

Exaggerate much?

That was an excellent set of idents back in the day.

They were beautiful. Can't help wondering how TV presentation has gone from something as smart, strong and polished as the Carlton idents to wobbly man-tits emerging from the sea. The quality of pres really has regressed over the past 15 years.

The irony is that brand recognition and standing out from the crowd is as important as ever nowadays. The problem is they're all trying to do it and in turn end up very similar.

Does anyone know if this is the first Eurovision ident on BBC One because I don't recall any other ones.

Case in point, BBC and ITV both have 4 main channels and both have idents based on people. C4 and C5 both have idents featuring no logo at all on them and everyone else falls into a mix of mediocre, poor and terrible idents. What happened to the creativity of idents like the BBC One globe, or the ITV hearts? Presentation and idents have changed, and not for the better.

Even the ITV hearts, which most people criticised both then and since, both the heart films and the blue spinning hearts endboard, looks like a masterpiece of design compared to what BBC One serves up today.
I even think those short lived ITV1 Mk1 emotions idents were better made.

TBH, I wasn't a fan of the look before that with the square logo, and don't get me started on the horror show that was ITV Day. BBC One's previous idents before were, well, good and obviously miles ahead of the current BBC ones. However, they eventually fell into the problem so many other idents have done, they were around for too long and became stale over a while.
