"Oneness" is just a worded interpretation of what the circles depicted - bringing the nation together. So the link and the connection to the previous package is there. Of course, we can argue whether we believe it to be well executed or not, but I think it is obvious what "oneness" means!

I never know that, and I bet a few other didn't either. I suggest you ask friends and family if by chance there understand it aswell.

Of course, we can say "What does "oneness" mean and will the general viewing public know what it means, but did the general viewing public associate swimming hippos and acrobatic dogs and fantasy forests with "bringing the nation together"? I doubt it. Do they know what any ident package means? What is ITV's about? That is why I think we are thinking way too much about the oneness tagline.

No, I dont agree, there is something about tag lines, LWT had " your Weekend ITV" STV had "Television for Scotland" and there are a few more about. You dont throw out a tag line for the shake of having a tag line, You ask people in certain areas and there get the tag lines.

The Oneness tagline isn't really in question - it's just the usual marketing speil nobody takes any notice of.

What viewers will notice is that the clips used before programmes are of a lower standard than what they're used too. Twitter etc. does show that it does go beyond us lot that opinion is almost universally negative, and while it's true many won't really notice them initially it is still no excuse, esepcially when they're of a standard so poor that it's not just a poor ident for BBC1, it's a poor ident for British television. Honestly don't think I've ever seen an ident set so poorly produced.

But it's BBC One. The fundamental element of the BBC pres is the BBC One logo. It still has "The One to Watch" as a tagline. Oneness isn't really on screen too long to be considered too much by the audience because the idents always end with the BBC One logo on view. I think you underestimate a viewers intelligence. They will either work out what oneness means, not notice or care or come up with their own meaning. At the end of the day, they will still know they are watching BBC One because it says they are on the ident.

On the theme of radio and tv logos how about Radio 1s round logo with the inner 1 for BBC One?

Yep - if you go back far enough in this thread I expressed incredulity that Radio 1 had better visual branding than BBC One TV

That really was the first sign this rebrand wasn't going to go well when a promo launching the new look BBC One ended with a slogan used on and off for a decade or more rather than using the "oneness" branding like they did at Christmas.

Something to slightly relate to the so-called tagline of 'Oneness'...

Remember the Sky refresh of last year? Looking through the press release, something sounds familiar, especially in the case of Sky1...

Quote:
Sky1’s personality is brilliantly brought to life through a hero character who ‘releases oneness’, clearly reflecting the channel’s values in a visual and engaging way

Releasing oneness...and yet that was done much better compared to what happened over at the BBC.

'Oneness' just seems so cheesy and seems christmassy... It would've been so much better and had a bit more of an impact if they chose something like 'We are One'

Wait, so the whole oneness thing is ripped off from Sky?
