So, more than half of the UK's voters are scumbags? Are all television discussion threads full of pro-EU lefties? Very Happy

The BBC have money to spend on presentation if they so desire. After all, the Christmas presentation was carried out by a renowned advertising agency and they used two independent advertising directors to create the Christmas look. I'm sure they could have just asked these same directors to come up with an additional 8 idents under the Oneness theme if they had common sense.

Using political jibes to put across a point of view is not really beneficial to the debate as we will never know why people vote the way they do, and to criticise and slag off the voting preference of people just because someone else doesn't like it, is to criticise and slag off democracy itself.

Completely agree, a good idea ruined by political crap.

The point could have been made that these new BBC One 'Idents' (I use the words lightly) are not innovative, nor professionally shot and have been re-created as spoofs to higher production standards. The point of an 'ident' is that it is unique to a brand in this case a world respected broadcaster.

If you follow the BBC argument for this sort of channel representation that it reflect life in the UK, then in the next few months we can expect.. gender free couple snogging down a back alley for Valentines, & cosmetic testing on Easter bunnies. Drunks dancing around a maypole, skinny dipping on Brighton beach and how about a Black Friday scrum for 50" TV's at Asda?

The BBC have got it wrong, but as usual with BBC management they will stick their heads in the sand, never back down and come up with allsorts of cobblers for justifying this mess.

Without wanting to stamp on the ashes of the beaten horse, by January 31st (if, as expected, this is the lot until next month), the image of miserable people posing for a real, natural, organic photo before wading into the freezing, grey sea, shot to suggest they have just been ordered on a death paddle, will have only become increasingly more aloof from the reality the concept purports to capture.

I guess this has served to demonstrate just how easy it is to get this concept, which isn't at all necessarily bad or unfixable, wrong. A niche activity that transpires on one day of the year as part of an extensive ident set totalling two. Oneness? Planning?

Yes. You raise good points. As I and others have said earlier, damage limitation can be achieved by simply adding a few more idents into the mix to give a bit of variety so that the same two, hugely unpopular idents, are not shown ad nauseum. All ident packages have images that are the least favourite, and showing three or four more better produced images would be enough to stall the disdain. An image of Broadcasting house with the fast moving red stripes would be good enough for the News ident. They already have this image available to use if they so wish.

One thing is for sure - the Radio Times will manage to find and print the one and only letter of support these idents receive.

I know the idents have nothing to do with Brexit and the whole announcement is a bit "over the top-ish".. nevertheless, it was very fun to watch Very Happy

It hasn't to be taken seriously (at least not that seriously)

It would have been better if the CA said "This is BBC1 with a new look for 2017. I know, this ident is cheap tat because some 14 year old marketing bod had a vision and you know what their vision's are like! They're meant to create good stuff, but this is what they came up with. And the BBC say they're strapped for cash! Well, whoever paid the idiot to come up with this concept clearly had more money than sense! Still, Happy New Year anyway, and now another repeat of a repeat of sodding Escape to the effing Country! ""

Surely the comedy comes from an exasperated CA who's at the end of his tether and insults his audience... Besides which, if people who voted Out haven't developed a thicker skin yet, they probably never will.

But comedy is subjective.......and the CA announcement, hyperthetical or otherwise, wasn't funny! It didn't make a mockery of the ident. It just demonstrated the anger of the person creating the mock. If the comedy was more relevant to the ident and the BBC Marketing bod, then it would have been funny. A person who voted Leave does not need thicker skin, just respect in the same way those who voted Remain are demanding respect for their point of view!, But, I'll leave my argument on the issue there as this is a TV Presentation forum, not a political thread!

I think this thread is long enough without this drivel about what's funny and what's not.
