Thanks for the info, timgraham! We'd love to see some YouTube clips of the new set when they're uploaded.

Here is last night's special edition of France 2 news covering the crash of Air France Flight 447:

I live in Melbourne so there's not much I can do for you there. I'll try and record off the live stream sometime. If you're ever looking for something to do around 6pm AEST (which is equivalent to 8am GMT), you can stream their bulletin online here.

Melbourne's 'set' is a slightly underwhelming sight at the moment...they're using a montage of landmarks on a strange blue background which isn't wildly popular, although apparently that's going to change as well.

Thanks!

We recently discussed various incursions of protesters during news programming. On July 21, 1977, a group of radical communists occupied TF1's studios in Paris just as the main 8PM news was going on the air. That particular newscast isn't available online, but here is coverage of the incursion from the following day (it's the lead story) with video of what the viewers saw:

As always, INA's video archives are somewhat temperamental, so you may need to refresh the page if it doesn't work the first time around.

This early 1980s test intro from New York was apparently never used, but it featured some state-of-the art computer animation:

According to some YT comments, it was used for promos (the news theme certainly was).

That must mean the rest of them are dreadful.

I suppose it was very much of its time, but the needless passing from anchor to reporter (and back again) in the headline sequence just seemed a little ridiculous.

Almost like a spoof Shocked

Don't know where I learnt that, but I do have vivid memory of seeing a video of them providing news coverage of a nuclear explosion in the early 1950's to.

Yes, KTLA was the first station with a news helicopter. This compilation of KTLA's news intros from the 1950s until today (already posted here a long time ago) includes a mention of "the world's only telecopter":

As for KTLA's 1993 morning news intro, yes, it's definitely showing its age now, but the passing from anchors to reporters also made it much more dynamic. I like the concept (used on a local station, that is; it wouldn't work for, say, a national newscast).
