(I found the intro is an old theme back from its Soviet days, with electronical bits. But don't know where the headline bed came from.)

You're right. Here's a Soviet-era news clip beginning with the original (?) version of that theme:

According to a YouTube comment, the theme, composed by Georgy Sviridov, is titled Time, Forward!

Arrow The full song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn4qjTVT4j8

I imagine the music package could get improved by taking most elements from the original score, and pitching up to G major.

I believe there should be two ways of rearrangement; One in full orchestra - like BBC World ident in 1995 (00:00 - 00:45), ABC News (Australia) and News at Ten, The other in moderated electronic bits - like BBC News in 1999, BBC Arabic TV news and current 3 News (NZ).

Anyway, I still don't know the origin of current headline bed.

I like the music; it manages to be both orchestral and modern at the same time. Some of the other elements, including the graphics flying out of the man's mouth at 0:16, are charmingly bizarre.

For the 7 O'clock news theme, I still preffer this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97Zp7dvKU1g
which I think it could make a corporate signature tune for all of NHK's news programmes.

If I have a professional skills, I could make a corporate look across NHK, using what is surrounding each letters N, H and K in NHK's logo, like how British designers Kemistry played with a dot in Norwegian NRK's logo.

One little more thing:

That's what I think so. And this kind of graphic is somewhat ridiculous, comparing with all those European news graphics.

Indeed. That's a great theme, whoami989.

Great find! It's San Francisco, by the way.

It's always interesting to me that big, multiculural European countries such as the UK, France, Germany, etc., don't have much -- if any -- national or sub-national TV news in immigrant languages (Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, Urdu, Hindi, etc.)

In many cases, European immigrant communities still have access to television programming in their languages, of course, but it's not really national or regional programming tailored to where they live. In most cases, it's just international programming piped directly from their countries of origin. Perhaps that contributes to the problems some European immigrants have fitting in?

If immigrant radio stations can work in Europe, why not TV?
