Laurence Ferrari left 'Le 20H' and TF1 this evening, seems a little rushed seeing as it was only announced yesterday.


Some of her words roughly translated:

'Well, that's the end of this edition, which is also the time to say goodbye. You may know, I'm off to new adventures. It is with great emotion that I leave, dear viewers, you who have accompanied me during those four years in television news. Thank you for your confidence which honors me and will continue to honor me all my life, and thank you for the countless messages of friendship that you sent me this week, they go straight to my heart.'

She ends with 'As I often say to my team, Go, yallah!' (Here we go)

Wow! That was so, so quick. The Independent article said that she would leave in July. I knew there were off-screen executive disputes over her, and so it looks to me like they were keen to get her out of the door ASAP - very ruthless and a tad disrespectful.

For me though, I've never liked her at all - she lacks the authority and credibility needed for their flagship bulletin. Just too lightweight, although she seems like a very friendly person on-screen.

It's been confirmed that Gilles Bouleau (he's been the stand-in since July 2011) will cover 20h from Monday until the end of August, but the big question of who will replace her will now come much sooner than later. However, according to 20 Minutes, the decision will be taken neither urgently nor with panic. («ni dans l’urgence ni dans la panique»)

Many suggesting Gilles Bouleau will get the gig full-time - but it's regrettable that Harry Roselmack left TF1 News when he did, contining to be the most liked French newsreader, yet being sidestepped in favour for Ferrari. Then, maybe Laurent Delahousse currently on France 2 as weekend news presenter. Again, very well liked, but seems to be getting some good gigs already at the channel.

Hopefully, it will be a time for them to make a more informed and successful decision to gain ground lost to France 2 in the news viewing figure stakes.

I'm wondering if TF1, apparently lacking a single big-name star, could break with tradition and go with dual anchors.

According to early figures discussed on MediaSpy, the ratings for Ten Late News were much lower than for the previous version of the program.

I don't really get what they're trying to do with Ten Late News - it's one of those shows where they're trying to dress the news up as something other than news, and therefore pissing off people who just want the news, while those it's supposedly aimed at (those who don't watch the regular news bulletins) just aren't going to give a programme labelled as news a chance.

I know Ten have changed their 6pm hour a few times since moving Neighbours/The Simpsons to Eleven but surely if they want a show like The Project to end of the night they are best off just moving The Project to the 10.30pm slot.

I wouldn't discount the appeal of a show that skirts the line between serious news and panel discussion. Whilst WW Update is right in noting it debuted well below the historic highs of the previous version, its second night was up 25% from its first. Ten is notorious for its extremely poor promotion - the only on-air promotion the show got was on the terribly performing Ten Breakfast. There were no promos, no external advertising and a web page was not even created until the night of the launch.

You bring up a good point about its title, it was originally to be called Ten Newsnight (which may sound vaguely familiar to British viewers) and was announced with much fanfare, only to be embarrassingly reverted back to Ten Late News a week before its launch after it was revealed that rival network Nine has owned the name since 2005 - something a simple IP search would've revealed.
