Why did this happen? Did LWT do Bank Holidays (except the news) or something?

LWT didn't have a news service until the late 80's except for a couple of brief bulletins read by the continuity announcer. Therefore when their start time on Friday's moved to 5:15 they needed to do one and got Thames to continue their Friday night bulletin as 'Thames Weekend News'. This was normally part of The 6 o Clock Show - Michael Aspel would introduce the show and then handover (with a bit of banter) to Andrew Gardener for the news. LWT never actually did any news themselves - LWT news that followed was contracted out and London Tonight was made by LNN

Anyway why is this in 'News presentation from around the world'?

Very nice. I like the rather pointless LED ticker running across the top of the set!
I'll ignore the clash of graphics in the top right hand corner, and praise the nice clock in the corner of the screen with the seconds displayed - something which channels in the UK don't do for some reason.

Love the live scenic shots as well. I've thought that either BBC Breakfast or GMTV should do something like that with a few remote cameras parked around the country to use at junctions, rather than use a rather boring low down to high up sweep jib shot time after time.

Does every News studio now have a Barco wall ?!

Not sure about the perspex lecturn they're standing behind - looks a bit out of place with the rest of the set.

A really sad and heartfelt "aloha" from the team at KHNL Hawaii News 8 and K5 who began a 3-way merger with KGMB 9 this week. KHNL launched local news in 1995 and, as you can see, they're a great crew. Channel 8 was the first all-digital news operation in the US and, from the start, were a hard-hitting, live-oriented news outlet. And Sharie is a really good weather presenter. Mahalo!
