No they wouldn't have had the time to do it, and everything else that they would be doing during the break to set up for the next part. Plus they wouldn't be expecting to do a pre-record with a fast turn around so wouldn't be set up in terms of facilities to do one.
I think it's a case of they're dammed if they do and dammed if they don't, with regards to giving her a second chance. Whilst giving her a second chance creates comments of being a fix, not giving her another chance would probably generate negative headlines about being 'so harsh' to a young child. I suspect they/Simon weighed things up and bared in mind the amount of publicity it would give the show, I imagine ratings could be higher for tonight's show as a result.
Listening to the feature on Breakfast this morning apparently all the acts will be told that tonight they only have one chance.
Whatever happened with regards to Hollie, its win win for BGT remaining in the headlines, and taking attention away from Susan Boyle's coverage this week.
I was also wondering, what was taken out to fit it in? Would it simply have been dropping a couple of competition VT's or was something else dropped. It seemed quite hurried on screen, especially when they were a bit late setting the stage for the high-pitched guy...

I don't think anything would have been taken out, but the running order was changed, and the show finished slightly later (10:01 according to my Sky box) than planned. After her break down they cut straight to an ad-break, giving them time to jiggle things around a bit and speak to ITV TX.
Great clip - and highlights one thing worth mentioning - the lack of sob stories this year. They've been left to the press to do, with the show instead mainly focusing on the talent and the ambition rather than the latest dead relative.
I'd like Aiden Davis to win tonight, but unfortunately can't see anyone beating Susan Boyle - however **** she is tonight. The anti-Boyle vote has no chance in a ten way fight - but perhaps if at the beginning of the second show they revealed the top two or three and reopened the lines just for them there's a chance she could be defeated.
Im just after watching last nights show for the second time and I think she was faking it. How could someone mess up a whole performance and come back 5 minutes later and be perfect. I think it was all put on so the public would feel sorry for her and vote for her

I wouldn't be surprised if her mum told her to do it!

She didn't come back 5 minutes later, it was nearer half an hour
Can you imagine the press reaction if they hadn't let her have another go and let her leave the stage in tears, the Daily Mail would have had a field day

Do you use full stops, I don't think you do
Oh, the irony! Even if it was intended, I'm still getting the urge to slap you on the face.
OMG! What a shock result, who'd have thought that Susan Boyle wouldn't win, Diversity were best on the night and the public have got it right for once!
