On the plus side, Tiny Tears didn't even come top three. I can live with this result!

Fantastic result tonight - it was close between a few acts, but Diversity were that one step ahead.

Not surprised Susan Boyle came second, though IMO she was one of the weaker singers tonight - I'd say Hollie gave the best vocal performance. I was expecting Stavros Flatley to be in the top three though, even though I didn't really get them until tonight. And good on all the dance acts for doing something completely new tonight.

One thing though, More Talent seems to have a very poor line up for the final considering they've had some pretty good guests across the week.

OMG! What a shock result, who'd have thought that Susan Boyle wouldn't win, Diversity were best on the night and the public have got it right for once!

Well no, the tabloids made up the public's mind for them didn't they.

Just when we thought Susan Boyle had run away with the competition weeks ago, Diversity turned up. What a great act. Very original, sophisticated, it would have been so easy to re-hash a previous routine but they didn't. Excellent work, very much deserved to win, serious kudos to everybody on the team.

Flawless - in all three of their routines the performances have always been technically better than Diversity, but i didn't think it was all that likeable really. Very pretty and they're definitely going places.

Shaheen - not his best performance but he has a good singing voice. The audition was better. but he's a professional actor anyway so he doesn't need this.

Aidan shot himself in the foot by effectively admitting the routine was under rehearsed. Second favourite to win the competition and blew it with a hybrid performance of his auditions, then Simon made him cry. He'll be back next year I reckon.

2 Grand was a nice family friendly act, succumbed to nerves but at least she didn't scream the place down when they both screwed it up so kudos for that. It was never going to win realistically. If it carries on she'll be much better on her own because, and I don't mean to sound nasty, he's not going to be around forever.

Hollie may have tried to reap what she sowed yesterday by breaking down on TV but fruits of her labour didn't reach the top three even though the performance tonight was solid. Could go far providing she doesn't throw a wobbly at every opportunity that gets screwed up.

Stavros Flatley - again, how can you not like it? It's brilliant! It's different, it's unique, it's a shame it didn't reach the top three. I'd question how much further the act as it stands can go before it runs out of steam altogether as I don't think there's a lot of mileage in it.

Shaun Smith - great voice, solid performance. Bill Withers would be proud. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get a record deal.

Susan Boyle - usual rock solid performance, has the world at her feet and cracked America in 72 hours flat, now America can't get enough of her. If Simon doesn't sign her for a record deal of some sort, somebody somewhere will. She deserves success.

Julian Smith - while it was good, not my sort of act unfortunately. Surprised actually it came third but kudos.

Somebody added to Wiki the final voting order, take with a pinch of salt, usual Wiki reliability issues apply:

Diversity Winners
Susan Boyle Runner-up
Julian Smith Third
Stavros Flatley Fourth
Shaheen Jafargholi Fifth
Shaun Smith Sixth
Aidan Davis Seventh
Flawless Eighth
2 Grand Ninth
Hollie Steel Tenth

Assuming this is true, then the viewing public saw Hollie's outburst for what it was and dumped her in last place. Serves her right as well.

Tonight was the first night I thought Flawless really stepped it up a gear and stamped their personality on their act, making it much more than just a dance routine - and they also managed to do it in such a way it didn't come across as a copy of Diversity either.

The problem for them though was that Diversity stepped up yet again. Will be interesting to see how well Flawless did when the voting breakdown is released - I think most people assumed the vote would be split between hem and Diversity meaning neither could win, but obviously that's been proven wrong.

A nice £225 win for me, decided to back Diversity with a £15 bet this morning when they were 14/1...then once the show started they dropped to 2/1.

Well happy Very Happy

The thing I loved about Diversity's choreography is that each time it seemed to tell a story, and for me it was more visually compelling. Flawless are incredibly talented though - and I actually thought they'd cancel each other's votes out, leaving Susan to take the title, so the result was unexpected to say the least. I doubt they were real contenders until that performance tonight - they stole the show and thoroughly deserved to win.

I hope ITV will be releasing the voting percentages for all the live shows, as they've done for The X Factor, I'm A Celebrity and Dancing on Ice. Dying to see the breakdowns, particularly tonight's - wonder if Stavros came close to finishing third as they seemed quite popular with the public.

Absolutely amazing figures - I expect it's been a very long time since anything topped a 70% audience share, certainly outside of things like the World Cup Final.

18:45- Britain’s Got Talent – The Final: 15.32m (71%)
* peak: 18.02m (75%) at 20:10
21:30- Britain’s Got Talent – The Final Result: 17.33m (67.6%)

20:30- Britain's Got More Talent: 1.64m (8.3%)
22:00- Britain's Got More Talent: 2.37m (13.5%)
* peak: 3.09m (15.6%) at 22:05
* most watched multichannel programme of the year

The main show getting 15.32m (71%) and peaking at 18.02m (75%) and the results show getting 17.33m (67.6%) peaking at 19.19m (71.6%) is out of this world, I never thought we'd see ratings this high again

This puts BGT in the number 1 spot of the year, 6m above 2nd place and even more impressively it's now the 5th most watched programme of the decade!

Highest rating reality series of the decade too - overnight series average for BGT 2009 is: 12.35m (52.4%), compared to X Factor 2008 in 2nd with 9.72m (42.4%). BGT 2008 averaged 9.6m (42%).

I'd guess excluding one-off specials and events it's the highest rating series of the decade overall too.

Plus they wouldn't be expecting to do a pre-record with a fast turn around so wouldn't be set up in terms of facilities to do one.

I'd agree it would be impractical, but would they not have those facilities for playing back the clip of each act during the sequence as the phone lines open, and also for Britain's Got More Talent (the ITV2 show) which I imagine comes from the same gallery?
