Seriously, we all need to form a design company.

What would we even call it - TVF Design Bureau? Wink

The concept is OK but I think its the execution that really lets them down. The lack of a soundtrack and it being a single shot makes them look dull. ITV follow a simular idea but they feel to be a much higher standard to the BBC's effort.

There isn't even a concept.

To think we slagged of C4 but at least two of their four idents are visually pretty spectacular and the soundtracks are fairly memorable, plus they've got a very decent presentation package around it - even realising that with no logo in the idents they needed to add short stings after them just to make it a bit more identifiable as C4 (without even showing the logo).

Total lack of a theme, the end of the centralised logo or anything linking the idents together. Awful

As daft as it sounds, it would be so nice to just break away and stop copying everyone else - why not go back to designing/implementing one GOOD ident/symbol. A reimagining of the spinning globe anyone? lol

Effects, camera movement, music, they make ITV's a million miles away from the BBCs, which are literally a static camera shot and nothing else.

Having seen these poor excuses for idents, can we be sure W1A wasn't actually a documentary commissioned by BBC Factual rather than the comedic pseudo-documentary it was promoted as?

Exactly. You can tell that by Martin Parr's quote - "All I was told...". It's like someone devised these in seconds (if that) on the back of a postage stamp.

No, an unbranded fag packet. Give them that.

2017, the year BBC One presentation died.

As done by Pip in the gallery here a year ago. The ones later in the thread are simply stunning.

Even the New Year ones BBC1 used after dropping the "Love" campaign were a million times better than these and could have been expanded into a new set quite easily - they created stings for the entire year, but just two idents which were tied into January so swiftly dropped. (These have been reposted earlier in the thread)

BBC1 simply deserves better and as one of the countries national treasures really should be treated with more respect. There are no excuses - I'd rather they spent £5m on something decent than £50k on something this crap, and they shouldn't give a **** what the Mail and Sun think. The only people they need to answer to is the viewers.

They have no problems running promos or VTs in shows like Strictly every week which are generally very well done, whatever the budget. The people complaining about spending hundreds of thousands on a rebranding are the same people that complain when the BBC use more than Gary Lineker and a cameraman to cover the World Cup - they have no understanding of what it takes to make television and the costs involved.

Not even a fag packet then!

Clearly the BBC had a much clue how to go about these idents as the government do about leaving the EU.

Knew you wouldn't like them.

Bathers on Clevedon beach is the news ident given to the regions.

But directors can still use Kite if they want.

So we may still see one of the Circles idents pop up every now and then, despite the fact they've now abandoned that as the theme for the idents? I don't know whether to be pleased, as it means less of the 'wobbly camera shot of people' idents, or annoyed that we're just going to have more inconsistency.
