Here's a behind-the-scenes look at RTL's virtual news set (with English subtitles):

Yet another technically very clever, but visually horrible, virtual studio...

Ugh. Seems like such overkill for something that results a visual mess.

Prva TV in Serbia also uses RTL-lookalike graphics for some of its newscasts, but I've read that the channel legally acquired RTL's license:

Where do RTL Nieuws have their London base? I noticed on this evenings broadcast that Vanessa Lamsvelt who is the Great Britain correspondent for RTL was doing a live report from London on the identification of 'JIhadi John.' Anyone know if they would be based within ITN or elsewhere?

I watched the report and the backdrop was just a still of Westminster. It didn't strike me as ITN. There is a possibility it could be Millbank but the more likely possibility is that it's a small studio at Fremantle Medias offices in central London. RTL is the parent company so the natural move would be basing reporters there. (Remember they will have UK correspondents for RTL Hungary, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, etc)

The report I saw featured her in a London street (wasn't it in front of the HQ of intelligence services?). Anyways, due to our complicated public broadcasting system, Lamsvelt is also the UK correspondent for (public) KRO-NCRV Radio. She works as freelancer, like most Dutch correspondents abroad. It is quite usual correspondents work all alone, some having an intern or a fixer around, maybe a 'permanent camera operator'. I know some Dutch correspondents are camjo's, do all work by theirself. I even heard a baby crying during a live radio interview, the reporter excusing for doing the talk from his kitchen Wink

After teasing with several promos about SOMETHING BIG IS COMING. WSVN-7 Miami has released details about the new NewsPlex that will premiere on March 8. Its really wild looking. Huge screen nearly wraps around the entire top level. They added a rolling video ribbon. They removed the old fashioned tv screens and put up a wall of screens with a runway for anchor presentation. The owner of WSVN say "this is us on steroids". It really wild looking and its very WSVN. They wont let anyone top their OTT presentation.

Here is a link with a video of the new NewsPlex.
