Rageh is a bit wooden. Not much charisma, he's just reading the autocue with a blank expression.

Nice to see a new face presenting though, it's about time the presenting team got a breath of fresh air.

I imagine it's just nerves. Many newcomers probably have the same experience. And like you say, nice to have some fresh faces.

He has anchored before on both BBC World & AJ English and he was poor then also.

At one point he was one of the regular News 24 and World joint overnight presenters certainly.

I think that was around about 2000 or 2001, noggin. For a while he alternated with Clarence Mitchell . I think it was after Joanna Gosling stopped doing overnights and before Heather McCarthy and Alastair Yates arrived.
Clarence Mitchell, that's a blast from the past. Whatever happened to him?

He became the spokesman for the McCann family, still is I believe, but I know he recently put himself forward as a candidate for the Conservatives in 2015.

Do you think the 'right of passage' to become a national presenter/flagship presenter should be-

Local Reporter>Stand-in 6pm and lunchtime>6pm Presenter>National/Flagship Presenter

OR

National Producer>National Reporter>National Specialist Correspondent>National/Flagship Presenter

IMO Local should move on to the National as they have experience, Editor's etc shouldn't move to the anchor chair as, although they are senior in the pecking order, most have little or no presenting experience.

I think it should be based on whoever does the job well and has the right amount of relevant experience in TV journalism, not simply on a pattern of jobs that you must have done beforehand.

Sir Alastair Burnet, unarguably ITN's best ever presenter, was never a local presenter, but he was political editor at ITN and at the same time edited the Daily Express, throw into that a director on ITN's board. Like DrewF said, it's all about having the right experience in TV journalism. Programmes can fall apart without experienced presenters, and nowadays it is becoming increasingly noticeable as to who has done their homework and who hasn't. As a result, many journalists don't become full-time presenters until at least their mid-30s.

I would imagine Claire Stewart will be doing the same as Harry Smith and doing both for STV and ITV

Claire is only helping out, it's not a permanent role.

Sorry for going slightly off topic, but Emily Morgan is the double of Cathy Newman!
