Is there any chance he's likely to leave? Has this recent flurry of speculation been prompted by something in particular?
No. No word on any of the main anchors leaving just a if and when.. With Alastair, however, you'd imagine he'd be wanting to cut down his hours in the not so distant future.

I feel that Charlene could present breakfast TV! - she seems to have really good 'chemistry' with Alastair.
I hope her career goes further a bit sooner.
I would disagree, although I think Charlene could probably do it quite well, I think Faye Barker would be in the newsreader role on GMB and Charlene more suited to the national news bulletins.

I was merely saying in a tounge in cheek way that Charlene White seems to have the sort of personality that you would find on breakfast television. I didn't mention GMB, or Faye Barker. You said "I disagree" and then you said "I think Charlene could do it quite well"
You just need to read my original post carefully and not get too carried away.
I wasn't saying anything about GMB. I was just saying that she is quite a warm sort of newsreader.
But for the record, Faye Barker would be good on GMB and so would Charlene White.

Wait... so you mean not everyone on here is an industry insider with genuine insight into the internal thought processes of some of the country's top on-air personalities?!
I think I'd quite like to see the Evening News and News at Ten go back to being single headed. Perhaps then the Lunchtime News could get a dedicated presenter in Mary, and Julie could take on more with the Tonight Programme, as I feel her biggest talent is in interviewing.
