What's quite striking is that Matt was anchoring the show yesterday according to the following YouTube clip:

And then today he was fired with his fellow colleagues only finding out a few hours before air.

I would therefore assume that the reports must be quite serious and not isolated if a suspension is bypassed and dismissal is the immediate course of action.

In the current climate, it doesn't necessarily mean that the allegations were serious. This entire scandal has shone a bright light on the industry and companies are now terrified. However, they are ironically actually showing how poor their HR procedures are by panic-firing people, rather than following standard procedures. They've spent years ignoring allegations, now they're just accepting all allegations, without conducting independent investigations.

Rather than making it easier for victims to come forward, the mob mentality which is now setting in will make a lot of people scared to come forward, for fear that they'll be accused of jumping on the bandwagon.

At the risk of sounding like an old fart, our world is in a truly sorry state right now!

Today is a very sad day

Whether he's guilty or innocent there is a process to follow and I doubt with an allegation this serious that process could have been followed adequately within the timeframe they've given. I wouldn't be surprised regardless of any conclusions whether there could be a case coming from Matt Lauer regarding how the matter was handled.

Shocking, to say the least. After Charlie Rose I wondered who could be next and kinda thought ''imagine if it happens to Lauer'' but it was just too hard to even imagine. So sad for him and the Today Show family, mostly Savannah.

I wonder, did they use the voiceover for today's show and did it say his name?

No, it went nameless according to NewscastStudio.

They have also removed Lauer from the @Todayshow twitter cover photo.

Not news related, but another well known American broadcaster accused of inappropriate behaviour:

A Prairie Home Companion is a very long running entertainment radio show in the US, it was broadcast on Radio 4 Extra. He retired from it a few years ago and it sounds like they're trying to delete his presence from the history of the programme.

Interesting times, seems like the US is going through what we in the UK did a few years ago

What had happened with hosting duties of the Today show? Have they promoted Willie Giest or brought in somebody else?

Hoda is filling in as co-host and Megyn is appearing more prior to her own show too.
