Back in 1992, they should have changed the breakfast franchise's hours for weekends as producing anything half decent is going to be worthless when you go off air at 9.25am, especially on a Sunday

Regarding Lorraine, It's a pitty she can't make occasional apperances on GMTV Today, the same sort of frequency as Penny presents the programme

But remember when the franchise went out to auction, the Breakfast licence was still worth doing over the weekend, there was no competition from the BBC (they usually showed the OU and then opened up about 8.30am) and TV-am usually thrashed Channel 4 in the ratings in those days, so it was worth it for them to produce their kids output and normal Good Morning Britain.

GMTV is just a weekday brand now really, they have no original output at weekends, it's just the CITV brand used between 6.00am and 9.25am at weekends.

It's more of a matter of when than if, but whenever CITV does disappear from ITV1 altogether, I would like to see them have a stab at GMTV Today at the weekend, provide Breakfast with a bit of competition.

Breakfast may be more consistent throughout the year than GMTV, but weekend Breakfast, albeit presented with the same presenters, is a very different creature from weekday Breakfast. Then there is the bank holiday edition which yesterday had the feel of a weekday edition (i.e. Breakfast lite after 8.30), but the look of a weekend edition. Confusing.

Even more annoyingly they used the Breakfast clock on BBC One but the BBC News clock on the news channel.

GMTV have had the same set for ages. We notice the little tweaks, yes, because we're 'sad' (to quote TEST CARD CHRIS), but for those who don't, I imagine the set appears even more tired.

The thing is, something like an identity refresh (including the set) works on two levels. It's nice and fresh and new and exciting, yes, but then there's the deeper side to it - if GMTV want to change the tone of their show slightly, then marking the change with a refreshed look is a good way to do it. It replaces the negative idea of all the phone-ins and so on that may stay at the surface of people's minds when they think of GMTV with a 'turning over of a new leaf'.

Plus, you can get some publicity in the form of press releases about the relaunch.

So I see the money spent on the set and new graphics as an investment, not a 'waste'.

I have to say i agree. There may be editorial and content changes and additions but the look is the same as it was with all the bad press and phone-in scams etc. I agree that with a refresh it marks GMTV's change and marks the way they have come throught the scandal. I don't think you can say that people wouldn't notice because there is generally a build up the week before i.e. 'Next week marks a new season or term' etc.

Just walked past him, but knew it was him - my boyfriend had no idea until I said. (I did get wobbly knees.) I didn't realise he'd be so short though!

I typed into Google 'new look gm.tv' and its the third one link down. If you click on any of the toolbars it takes you back to the current website but this is what is to come.
