I think he went back to the top story because he'd been told in his ear they could play it.

Yes - It would make sense as he only read out a brief line on it.

There was nothing wrong with the Business updates, i suppose the cost was too much. That's why they were axed. Although, i think it was stupid to do so as they'd never axe the sports and at the end of the headlines say 'a breif look at the sport'. It's a good choice to bring it back as it wasn't getting enough coverage, not something i'd expect from a rolling news channel. They can now use the tonnes of business presenters they have again. Laughing

I think it's good that they're bringing the updates back. They seem to have increased their business programming, though, as they now broadcast Talking Business with Linda Yeuh on the NC.

A bit picky I know, but they just put all the BBC station logos up behind Clive and included the old BBC radio 7 logo instead of 4Extra.

Does anybody have a cap of the current split screen?

Jay Wynne being credited as 'Weather Presenter' on News at 11, surely he is more than that?

He is Jay Wynne DipHE DipMF BSc (Hons) MSc (and that's just from a cursory look at his history), but names aren't credited that way on the news.

Someone must have read this; Nick Miller was credited as Broadcast Meteorologist at 2AM.

I think DanielK meant that 'weather presenter' rather does him a disservice. He's a trained meteorologist. I'm sure Daniel wasn't suggesting that all of his post nominals should be included, but 'weather presenter' would more accurately describe those typical of other broadcasters who merely present forecasts they haven't prepared themselves. It would be like someone crediting a librarian as a library assistant - a common misconception. Librarians, like meteorologists, have formal academic qualifications in their field.

Yes. The BBC national on-screen "weather presenters" include both fully qualified meteorologists (with met degrees or similar who are also full Met Office forecasters) and less-academically qualified (though still Met Office trained) presenters. They all work for the Met Office rather than the BBC. I don't know if Jay is a full Met Office forecaster, or a presenter.

Historically all the Met Office weather presenters on the BBC were full forecasters, but this changed when News 24 launched I believe (back in 1997)

Just to pick up on your last point, when the Met Office won the BBC Weather contract, they noted that they (the Met Office) will supply all the data, on-screen forecasters and forecasting services.

Quote:
The new contract means the Met Office will continue to supply weather services to the BBC. This includes the data on which the forecasts are based, on screen presenters and forecasting services across BBC output on TV, radio and online.

I know that, but are the general public going to know him more as a weather presenter or as a "Broadcast Meteorologist"? The distinction will be lost on most viewers.
