BBC Breakfast - 16th July onwards

'Nothing against Northerners' ??? Do you know how insulting that is?
And this is from someone who's originally from the south now livinig 'up north'.

I wasn't meaning to sound offensive. I just meant the programme shouldn't be so in your face about the fact it's now based in the North.

Back to BBC Breakfast, I've recently returned to the fold.

Without going into detail, I've been going through some ups and downs personally this past 6 months or so and one small change I have made is to stop watching Good Morning Britain. I had tired of Breakfast a year or two ago and switched to t'other side. Whilst I did enjoy a change of style, I have realised that I feel as though the programme has made a small contribution to my recent feelings. I hadn't quite realised until now that waking up every morning to vitriolic arguments and bullying of guests and media personalities was subconsciously dragging me down and making me feel wound up in my own daily life. What with all the daily over-the-top coverage of the acrimonious fall out of Brexit as well, it was getting too much.

Last week I decided to switch back to Breakfast and, whilst it's not perfect, it is calmer and more measured. It's actually been quite refreshing to return to it after a break. It makes you realise just how precious the BBC is as a national institution. The balanced and measured service it provides to us all is absolutely vital, especially in these toxic times we live in.

I've found Breakfast to be as generic as ever. Steph was London based and moved up with the team to Salford.

The show hasn't suffered from moving from TVC to a regional news set in the North West.

I agree with the comments above regarding Breakfast. Piers is funny and I do like his partnership with Susana but there's only so much I can watch of him. Breakfast provides a good alternative when I've had enough.

I definitely preferred the days of Jeremy/Sophie and Bill/Sian, even Dermot/Natasha, but Dan and Louise do have a good chemistry and rapport. Same with Charlie and Naga (despite not being a fan of the latter). I just can't stand the voices of some of the reporters, like Jayne McCubbin for example. I appreciate she's Northern, but I just feel she lays her accent on a bit too thick sometimes, the same way Steph McGovern did. I've nothing against Northerners, but sometimes the accent feels forced as if to say "I'm from the North" as if it's something remarkable.

On the contrary, I think the show has suffered a lot from the move, and gained little out of it. It was always a token move, and it has never come across as being any more than that really. It feels small scale, where as previous versions have felt larger. As many problems as I have had with Good Morning Britain whilst Piers Morgan has been a host, the show does feel like a bigger deal than Breakfast.

Heck, even the Channel 4 Daily which used multiple small sets for their output felt like a bigger deal than Breakfast does now.

You don't have to have the biggest, brashest set with controversial presenters to have the largest share at breakfast. Breakfast does this seven days a week without having any of those qualities. People tune into Breakfast for a quick digest of news with friendly, relatable presenters who don't go out of the way to be anything more than providing a public service.

October sees Breakfast celebrate 20 years with this format, an outstanding acheivement that has seen off GMTV and Daybreak and has been on-air longer than Breakfast Time and Breakfast News. It's survived the move to Salford and will continue to be the default tv show for those who use the show as part of their morning routine before going to work/school run etc.

The Piers Morgan Show (also known as Good Morning Britain) will of course have their fans, but is a different vehicle altogether.
