Mark Austin in Calais and Mary Nightengale at the Gatwick runway.

God, the reporters seem to be able to get across the channel alright!! Laughing
I'm suprised they didn't just keep Mary at Dover or put Mark there, as it doesn't add much to the report for him to be in Calais - no diffrent to being in Dover really IMO.

Mary did make me laugh in her hi-viz jacket in the middle of the runway! Laughing

Mark in France will help bring in the stories from that side of the channel I suppose - but I agree not a great importance

Mary's Hi-Viz was great Very Happy

EDIT: Great News at Ten from ITV, tight for time, but did well, nice close as well

Agreed! Great show last night, and Nightingale at Gatwick was unexpected. I don't suppose itv have provisions for VO intros supporting 3 newscasters. The show was technically brought to us by Mark, Mark and Julie.

The on duty sound mixer could have been asked to edit a voiceover together if they had wanted it done that way.

I really love the long closings on ITV News at Ten, tonights seemed a little longer than usual (probably wasn't mind) and love it when it closes on location.

I am a bit weird like that, don't ask why I like it, just do! Laughing

Haven't watched BBC News for a while, but I know they've been doing extended editions, so switched over, and they don't even do a close?? Fiona just said Bye and it cut straight to local. How boring. ITV so much better! Laughing

I'm sure that unofficailly their having extended bulletins, unlike the BBC i just don't think they announced it.
Even before the ash cloud, since the election it's been ending nearer to 10:30 than the normal 10:25ish.

I agree the BBC have poor endings - just bye, then local news.
ITV especially on location have great endings with the other cameras in shot then a pan out onto the background! Mark made me alugh tonight with his hi - viz too , although hidden a bit better than Mary!

I should think it's near enough defiante that there'll be back in the studio tomorrow (well they can't stand on the runway any longer! Laughing ) So will have to wait a while for on location again. Although Thursday's might - Sky debate?

The BBC's closes are shocking, especially considering they're simulcast on News 24, it would make much more sense to have the formal close, especially as they only lasted 10 seconds or so. The switch to regional news would then look much more professional, whilst on the news channel they can run a couple of trailers before returning for the rest of that hours news.

And in a vague attempt to get back to talking about ITV, has it always been the case that ITN bulletins have had credits at the end, whilst the main BBC1 bulletins haven't?

Yes, as far as I know.

ITV regional news doesn't have end credits either, I really don't get why they don't do it. Its not as though it takes much effort to literally type "Presented by __________ and ________. Directed by __________, Editor _________" or something like that. It could add a bit of professionalism to a somewhat messy production.

Central News - West, East and South always used to do it.

Katie already presents on BBC Radio 3 and the BBC Proms - this is nothing new. Got a source to back up your departure claim?

If the Twitter of ITV's Head of Home News is to be believed, then yes, it is true.

A huge loss to ITN in my opinion, and I guess a certain member or two on this forum won't be best pleased at this news...! Interesting to note that was the youngest newscaster to appear on television when she joined the ITN weekend roster back in 1998, although I'm sure that that record has been broken since that time.

The question is, who will they promote to replace her (if they choose to)?

I imagine Emma Crosby is a possibility!
