Didn't last long did it ? A bit gimmicky, and all that pressing interrupts the flow of the report. I wasn't a fan.

I know technology like that is commonplace though on Sky Sports.

No it didn't! It did as you say interrupt the bulletin, the videoclip really does show this. Particularly in the crossover between Julie and Mark/Trevor. I'm sure I remember Lawrence McGinty putting it to use at one point. I think for graphics like this in the current yellow look they use the virtual mock up studio with large screen behind the correspondent.

Totally pointless, wasn't it. All of the animation transitions could have been triggered without her intervention and made the story telling less clunky.

Do we actually believe it was triggered by her pressing the screen? Hmm.

Also, why are those yellow panels on the current desk 'virtual'? Did we ever get to the bottom of it?

It would have been her doing it, otherwise there would be no point in buying/designing the screen if the graphics could be played fullscreen or in a virtual set of their own. She has to switch to 'drawing' mode to circle the region mentioned.

The panels were something to do with yellow being composed of green and red, so it may key out the squares, something like that! Plus the squares aren't washed out on screen.

Just come across this:

I'd forgotten how terrible ITV News was back then - the TV equivalent of a tacky tabloid newspaper. Nina and Geraint shouting at us, with Geraint reading the fact that we might not see David Beckham in an England shirt again, sound like World War Three had begun. Yuck.

Luckily it's far better these days!

That was a very low point for ITV News. Tabloidy and fluffy, always with the defence that they were being "human". As for the music - I never liked that, it was far too strident and harsh and went stale very quickly. The original 2004 version was better, but I do prefer the current theme over that.

Thankfully ITV News does seem a hell of a lot "newsier" these days than it was in 2006 - I remember losing interest in it around that time because of the complete over-emphasis on human stories and dubious language in the scripts. It wasn't so bad in 2004 but it got worse for some reason around the time of the 2006 rebrand. I didn't start watching regularly until NAT came back, and remember feeling that the toned-down scripts were quite refreshing.

So all being well, we should expect to see a glimpse of the 'new look' ITV News at 11.25am tomorrow?

Its like a bad parody. Some of the written headlines are hilariously bad, "the enemy within" and "timetable to terror". Also had to laugh at Nina's 'burger and chips' line Laughing. There seem to be some vague undertones of racism in that too, and given Nina lead that story it would be interesting to know if she was completely comfortable with that. But then it may have just been of its time.

When did they stop finishing the bulletin by standing up?

March 2009 when they changed all the bulletins to have a similar look to News at Ten.

I have to laugh at that 'whoosh' sound effect they use when they zoom in on his face in the beginning, and also later on when the headline animates out. Not a good time for ITV News.
