Home Alone isn't on all year round unlike some people/shows. It doesn't remind people of the current situation.

The fact that a 25+ year old film has been pride of place in Channel 4's Xmas Day schedule for the last three years and it probably would still have been shown this year regardless is, IMO, laughable.

When we hark back to Christmas Day schedules of the past, people tend to forget that ITV have really abandoned Christmas Day since their appalling Christmas Day 1993 line up, wall to wall movies and that was it.

Christmas Day on ITV always struggles up against BBC One and it is a shame they don't spend a little bit more effort into bringing us something better on Christmas night, but really 1990 was the last time they put in a tiny bit more effort.

BBC One was just dull and boring and really needs a major make over for 2021 Christmas line up.

Underwhelming all round really.

Ouch thats a bad rating for BGT considering its supposed to be such an popular show. I thought it was decent enough but it was on way too long. It would have been better cutting it to 90 minutes and having it a bit earlier - maybe between the soaps, something like this, ITV News 4.30pm, The Chase 4.45PM, Emmerdale 5.45pm, BGT 6.45pm, Corrie 8.15pm and they could have brought WWTBAM forward from Boxing Day to 9.15pm Christmas Day at 9.15pm-10.30 and moved Clarkson's other show to Boxing Day or Sunday in place of WWTBAM.

Or they could have just had BGT on Christmas Eve instead of the extra Corrie and Gameshow Marathon which would have been 90 mins and just moved Gameshow Marathon and WWTBAM to Christmas night.

I wonder if Channel 5 might be tempted to put All Creatures Great and Small on Christmas Day next year? It’s risky but it could potentially piggyback off Call the Midwife if they scheduled it after it.

Im surprised they didnt air it on Christmas Eve like was in the provisional schedules. What sort of rating did it get on Tuesday and was it good for Channel 5?

Channel 4 also put Bakeoff on Christmas Eve when it could have done very well on Christmas Day and filled an hour and 20 minute slot.

That's where I thought 4 would air it, but they were almost outmanouvered by BBC One, airing Strictly 4.30 - 6.00 and the Call The Midwife 7.40 - 9.00.
Same audience demographic, so lining them up against each other would do neither broadcaster any favours.
And running it around for Bake off would be a little too early. It's a mid-evening show

I thought BBC One might have repeated their 3-part version of A Christmas Carol from 2019 with Guy Pearce, but alas they didn't- although it is on the i-player.

All the other C4 Bake Off Xmas specials have aired on Christmas Day. I think they've only ever rated absolutely fine there and perhaps they wanted to see if it would do better on Christmas Eve, though it managed 2.7m so didn't see a boost, it might well have been lower than normal actually.

Bake Off is a bit of an oddity really as even at the BBC the main series generally rated much better than the celeb series and specials.

May not have been practical this year but a 4-part Christmas series in between the main series ending and Christmas, where they ran retrospective shows, may have done well. The last few US series have been Holiday specials airing in December.

Also the New Year special of Bake Off isn't airing until Sunday 3rd January. Im sure in previous years its been New Years Eve or New Years Day.

After today’s TV schedule I keep having to remind myself it is Saturday rather than Sunday!

I didn't watch much TV on Christmas Day, but what I did watch I quite enjoyed. I thought Blankety Blank was great given the circumstances and I would certainly like it to return for a proper series. For me, it was one of the better gameshow reboots I've seen in recent years.

The other shows I enjoyed were It's Clarkson On TV and It'll Be Alright On The Night. I gave all the soaps and BGT etc. a big swerve as usual. Spent most of the evening listening to music on my new Echo Dot instead.

But the TV ratings are abysmal aren't they? Long gone are the days of the top shows getting 20m+ viewers. Even 8m for the Queen is really poor. Looks like a lot of people just gave up on TV completely this Christmas.
