What rating did Home Alone get?

BBC seem to have ‘copy and pasted’ their Christmas Day schedule for the past 5 years now. Rolling Eyes

Nonsense. Go on to Genome, and tell me when in the last 5 years, have BBC One run two quiz shows in the late afternoon early evening for 100 minutes on Christmas Night?
You'll find Strictly holed up in that timeslot, but that's not a quiz show..

I’m probably in the minority, but I didn’t think Bradley’s Blankety Blank was great and actually think the Walliams version was probably the better programme. On paper it seemed like a great match, but it just didn’t seem right.

Same. I thought it was ok but didn’t suit Bradley’s presenting style. And Jimmy Carr was a bit of an annoying guest.

Yes, but to be fair to him he was having to do all the heavy lifting in terms of the panel. With Blankety Blank, you can want people who are a bit more wacky, people like Miriam Margolyes, Alison Hammond and Joe Lycett. Instead you almost had the most generic and arbitrary panel possible possible.

Bradley would have probably worked better with more interesting people too.

To be fair to Bradley he couldn’t get too close to the celebrities (due to social distancing) and do the walk beside them, that’s usual a major part of the show. It kind of hampered the format a bit.

Quite. I saw lots of people say this years schedule was like 1985's, a comparison which I didn't understand

Underwhelming all round really.

That's a major success for Blank, it won it's timeslot, opposite Corrie!

And three years ago, it was Doctor Who that was in the schedule, not Michael Mckintyre. Then his Big Show took over and Who moved to New Year's Day. Big Show was impossible this year because of COVID, which is why The Wheel exists at all, let alone ended up in the Christmas Day schedule.

Not seen it yet though it doesn't seem to have been that well received from what I've read here and elsewhere. I'm not sure there is enough there to revive it as a series, but even if not the BBC would probably be happy enough just to do an annual Christmas edition.

The BBC problem is even when they change the schedule it feels the same, and given how significantly Christmas Day ratings have fallen in recent years it's arguably not been the right strategy to have the same staples each year. Mrs Browns Boy has lost half it's audience in 3 years - though to be fair I thought last nights was one of their better efforts. To be fair though they probably put the best content available out on Christmas Day this year - often there are some shows elsewhere in the schedule you feel they should have given the chance of a Christmas Day slot, but not so much this year, even though I did enjoy Ghosts and The Nativity Goes Wrong.

ITV always feels reliant on the soaps, and I think last night was the first for quite some time to be done with them by 8pm. The BGT Special was quite watchable but not surprised it struggled to top 3m, but a decent alternative to Call the Midwife and EastEnders.

They really missed a trick with the mic.

Blankety felt like a pilot than a Christmas special.

Apparently very good.

Up against formulaic rinse and repeat soaps and quiz shows, it's easy to tell why. BGT flopped - again no surprise as that too is contrived guff.

People want to get away from the same old same old. Home Alone is escapism, although I still think it's laughable that it has been on Xmas Day three years running.

Make your mind up!

Talking of miserable people, I didn’t see the usual 5 to 10 versions of A Christmas Carol on anywhere this year. I think it saw it pop up on the EPG once.
