Calm down, you can't even see the desk area in the more complete image. I'll reserve judgement until it's on air. I'm pretty sure they're going to keep the "windows", as they've sort of become iconic in New York.

It's one of the best live backdrops I've ever seen, and the fact that the camera is on the building WNBC is broadcasting from makes it even more believable:

Sometimes the weather can prove challenging, as this blizzard coverage shows:

They also occasionally use this view of Rockefeller Plaza:

New pics from David Cruse from TVNEWSTALK

The virtual window looks nice and they kept the old desk.

Very evolutionary studio update for WNBC, it's a bit more brash unfortunately, but the large LED "window" and weather area are seriously impressive:

Well at least they retained the virtual "window" and previous desk.... Oh and the LED weather wall is nice.

The weather centre is impressive but, when it comes to the rest of the set, I'm not sure bigger is better.

I preferred the brighter, glossier design of their old set. As the preview pics suggested, all the wood makes the new set look quite dark, stuffy and a bit dated.

NBC Nightly News is getting a new open according to newscaststudio. It reminds me of the old open that featured the Statue of Liberty. I like how it ends on 30 Rock Center.

NBC Nightly News” will introduce a new open this evening.

The open, provided to NewscastStudio by NBC News, starts with a computer generated view of Earth before zooming in quickly to the New York City area.

The camera flies by the Statue of Liberty and over Manhatten before coming to rest on a view of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, now known as the Comcast Building, sprawling toward the sky surrounded by the complex’s other structures.

The show’s logo has also been updated, removing the boxes that once surrounded it and moving the peacock above the words “Nightly News.”

The entire design is also now center aligned, including the “with Lester Holt” line has also been moved below the show name and switched to a sans serif typeface.

Agreed. I thought of it straight away:

Got a bit motion sick with these new titles.

This would work great with VR support.

I'm guessing this was Deborah Turness's idea, given that she was at ITV for that News at Ten relaunch and is now at NBC.

Interesting that it features the 1986 NBC logotype in it, which NBC doesn't seem to use much these days.

They still use the 1986 logotype for NBC NEWS.
