I'd rather they got rid of the 'Calendar' name and actually went corporate - YTV News sounds better than a programme name thats synonymous with unprofessionalism.

It brought a tear to my eye with Geoff's goodbye. Sad I think it's a shame about getting rid of the titles and music I like them! Sad

Well I think they over did Geoff's farewell a bit really, who's going to present when Duncan Wood has odd days off and goes on holiday, no doubt Geoff will be back unless John Shires will fill in all the time

In relation to the titles and music I like them too, somehow they still seem fairly new compared to when they got rid of previous look in September 2000.

I wonder if Calendar will still be blue or a bluey greeny shade, it generally has been throughout many looks.

I hope they keep the way the name caption fades on during the titles, thats a good feature, and I also hope they keep a local news round up animation sequence as snazzy as it is at the moment

I was very touched by Geoff's farewell, obviously a very well liked man. I'm very sad to see him go, I really like him.

I too like the current look, which doesn't seem dated.

If the trailer for next week is anything to go by, the new look is a dark orange type colour (you can see this still on one of the monitors towards the end of the trailer).

No, no and thrice no. What would it become a clone of all the regional shows, Yorkshire Tonight, Yorkshire Reports, Yorkshire News - no that wouldn't work.

Besides, Yorkshire doesn't specifically cover "Yorkshire", it encompasses Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, etc. So the "Calendar" name is just fine, and unique from all the other regions.

Erm, London Tonight doesnt just cover London..... so there is a precedent.
And Calendar is pretty meaningless. Ad by calling it YTV News or YTV Tonight, its not actually mentioning the 'Yorkshire' part.
Its also more meaningful than 'Calendar East'.

Yes I've noticed that, BUT the people who make YTV's trailers are known for creating endboards etc which don't look anything like the programme they are advertising (you may remember a Calendar trailer from last year that ended with a logo like a C in a circle with 'alendar' written with lines coming out of it or something) nothing like it actually looks. So that may be something they've just mocked up

And of course Calendar doesn't cover North Yorkshire but thats the last we'll say on that matter isn't it! Evil or Very Mad

Oh and here's another wish, I hope they reinstate the newsroom backdrop in the Calendar News bulletin studio.

Here's a question, Is Calendar South still done from Sheffield as it seems to have much more mainstream presenters doing it thesedays (i.e the same pool of presenters that do Calendar East)

Quite right - we all know it should, but a vociferous minority doesn't seem to think so!

So the current Calendar look has been in use from September 2000 to May 2003.

In that time the main programme has been presented by Christa Ackroyd, Lesley Alexander, Christine Talbot, Gaynor Barnes, Vicky Locklin, Faye Barker, Mike Morris, Geoff Druett, John Shires, Jonathan Morrell and Frazer Maude!

If the Saturday, Sunday and Monday bulletins come from a bulletin broomcupboard, I wonder if the new set will come with a soft area on Monday or whether they will be desk bound for a week until they get rid of the old one

I thought it may have been at YTV hence why I was curious.

Now where does it come from when they were in Bradford?

Strangely, Bradford also comes from YTV. The magic of television, eh?

Managed to get a sneak listen to the new theme yesterday, and IMO it sounds great.

It still retains the familiar Calendar tune (hooray!), but it's a much beefier arrangement than the nasty tinny one we have at the moment. The style put me in mind of the Central News theme - sounded 'big' if you know what I mean. Very Happy

I'm glad about that! I was more worried about losing that familiar music than anything else! Is it a record for the same music being used since approx 1982? I know there've been lots of different arrangements, but it's essentially the same music.
