A change of set, perhaps? Maybe with a change of titles? Hmmm?

(YORK)
North Yorkshire's biggest city, covered by BBC North East and Cumbria and Tyne Tees.

David, how can you claim that York is covered by NE&C and TTTV?

That's rediculous - Leeds (home of YTV) is less than 25 miles away and actually in YORKSHIRE.

However, Newcastle is over an hour away and hardly associated with York at all.

I know that there are transmitter issues here, but York certainly IS NOT "covered by BBC NE&C and TTTV" - and anyway, why do you have to proclaim this in your signature?

It's bizarre...

The fact that you post in the Yorkshire thread shows that you watch Yorkshire, so why would you also want to watch TTTV when it doesn't even cover that part of the world in it's bulletins.
That would be like me watching South Today in London and claiming that because you can receive it here that must mean it covers the region.

AAAARRRGGGH, FFS, Aston!!! Don't you read my posts properly? Obviously not.

Just so you know:

Arrow I live in York and I use an indoor aerial on my telly. The only viewable pictures are from the Bilsdale Transmitter in North Yorkshire (the same county as where I am) which carries Tyne Tees and BBC North East and Cumbria.

Arrow I also get Emley Moor and Belmont but these pictures are unwatchable due to other buildings being in the way. So, no I can't watch YTV and BBC Yorks and Lincs.

Arrow Tyne Tees and BBC NE&C cover North Yorkshire (including the city of York) very well, probably better than YTV or BBC Y&L (which mainly cover E, W and S Yorks) do. Tyne Tees in particular is very good at covering North Yorkshire and does so in the Teesside opt-out of North East Tonight, along with Cleveland and southern parts of Co Durham.

Arrow If you compare these maps, you'll find that Bilsdale covers more of North Yorkshire than Emley Moor or Belmont:

Coverage Map of Bilsdale

Coverage Map of Emley

Coverage Map of Belmont

Arrow Finally, if you click on the link below, you'll find that Bilsdale is the closest transmitter offering the strongest signal:

Transmitters covering the Grid Ref SE620502 (York Uni)

To sum things up:

Tyne Tees is my ITV region, not Yorkshire and I get BBC North East and Cumbria and not Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Got it? Good.

No, I haven't "got it" and don't be rude like that to me...

...nevertheless, York is not part of TTTV's remit, but it is part of Yorkshire.

Indeed, YTV/Calendar has a York office and and permeanent York reporter. There are also editing facilities there.

If TTTV & BBC NE&C are covering York "better" than YTV/LN Leeds then there's something very wrong and I'm sure that BBC Head of Nations & Regions (Andy Griffin) would want to investigate...

Just becase YOU can receive Blisdale better than Emley Moor, it does't mean that automatically it's the correct region.

Oh, no, Aston, didn't you read my last post? You obviously haven't because if you had you would have deduced from the coverage maps I linked to that York lies in the Bilsdale/Emley/Belmont overlap area and therefore BBC NE & Cumbria/Tyne Tees and YTV/BBC Yorks and Lincs cover the city.

Also, if you look at the York office, you'll find that it says "Yorkshire Tyne Tees Television" above the window with the YTV chevron on one side and the 1992-1996 TTTV logo on the other. Tyne Tees had a seperate office when it was independent and the seperate TTTV office didn't close till around 1993.

TTTV and BBC NE&C do cover N. Yorks (including the city of York) very well. I only said that they may cover N. Yorks better than YTV and BBC Y&L because when I've seen YTV and BBC Y&L, they've been very West and South Yorkshire orientated (and hence why LN Hull and Calendar East were created).

Due to the Emley/Bilsdale and Emley/Bilsdale/Belmont overlaps, there are definitely too many fingers in the North Yorkshire pie. I propose a solution:

Arrow East Yorks, Lincs, North Notts and North Norfolk - LN Hull on BBC1 Y&L and the current version of Calendar (with Calendar East opt-out) on YTV via the Belmont transmitter.

Arrow West and South Yorks and North Derbys - LN Leeds on BBC Y&L and Calendar (with Calendar News round-up) on YTV via Emley Moor.

Arrow North Yorkshire - Look North (Newcastle) with an opt-out from Middlesbrough on BBC NE&C and North East Tonight from Newcastle with the opt-out from TTTV's Teesside studio on TTTV.

You have to remember that there are many people in N. Yorks who have more in common with Cleveland and Co Durham than with E, W or S Yorks (especially in places like Thirsk, Northallerton and Whitby). So, many people appreciate the services carried by the Bilsdale transmitter.

York (like other North Yorkshire towns) is very different from anywhere in E, W or S Yorks despite the inhabitants being Yorkshire folk with Yorkshire accents. The county of North Yorkshire (including York) really does have more in common with North East England (Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Co Durham and Cleveland) than with the rest of the Yorkshire and the Humber political region (West, South and East Yorkshire and North and North East Lincolnshire).

Apologies for a lengthy post but I needed to give a detailed explanation.

Quite right!!! You don't live in York and you've never said you've been there, so you probably didn't know what one receive in the city until I wrote my detailed posts this evening.

Anything else about TTTV, BBC NE&C and their coverage, just ask (either by PM or in the BBC North East and Cumbria, Tyne Tees and Border thread)
