ITV Statement:

Quote:
"We'd like to apologise for the continuity error last night before View from Stormont. This was human error and we have reviewed procedures to ensure that this won't happen again."

That announcer should stick to saying

"Coming up later Family Guy, but now with strong language and adult humour, its Celebrity Juice"

Also great to read from Julian just how much he and Gillian were treated with such respect from ITV:

Julian quotes:
"When the news came in that it was all over, I'd already seen the way things were going so I wasn't surprised by it, and I'll always say that from the moment ITV took over a few years ago both myself and Gillian Porter were treated like royalty as the continuity announcers.

" They treated us like part of the family and we were asked over to London to the dos, and they were very, very good to us . I've no complaints at all."

Shame that love and respect didn't extend to them becoming a national ITV announcer from the Belfast booth!

Can't help thinking a Northern Irish based CA or editorial team would know what Stormont was. If ITV want to profit from broadcasting to NI probably best to ensure stuff like this don't happen again. It would also be nice if CAs were aware of what they were introducing was about. Personally I find it odd to hear a local programme introduced by a national CA but never mind.

I see on Twitter that leading announcers from the days of Carlton and LWT have waded into the debate

ISTR a similar issue happening on ITV Wales a while ago, when Wales on TV was introduced using the same generic announcement as the political programmes which were being shown in the English regions in the same slot.

And rightly so! Trish Bertram is a highly credible, well liked and respected, professional continuity announcer, just like our Julian & Gillian! Neither of these 3 would ever make such a schoolboy/girl error.

This ITV announcer is an embarrassment to the profession. Time and time again its error after error, spoken at lightning speed, terrible pronunciations, terrible delivery and terrible flow.

Mark my words.....getting rid of Julian & Gillian is (as a politician would say...) "an error of judgment" .

Making the UTV continuity announcer roles redundant made sound business sense, particularly as I imagine Julian and Gillian won't have been cheap due to their longevity at the company. They also presumably got a nice redundancy package and Julian at least seems perfectly happy with the way he was treated.

The "error of judgement" is the hiring of the (still unidentified?) ITV announcer who has made gaffe after gaffe.

So much voiceover work for all sorts of brands, adverts and promos etc. is done remotely so I don't buy that local knowledge is really the issue... In my opinion, it's just basic prep and general knowledge that appears to have been lacking.
