The Scheduling department at Southern used to send quite specific channel information to the press at one stage covering both VHF and UHF services.

5:50 News
6:00 Day by Day (Channels 6, 11, 27, 42); Scene South-East (Channels 10, 64, 66)*
6:40 Out of Town
7:00 Sky’s the Limit

Blimey, I've never seen UHF Channel numbers listed in newspapers before!

6 Newhaven VHF
10 Dover VHF
11 Chillerton Down VHF
27 Rowridge UHF
42 Hannington UHF
64 Heathfield UHF
66 Dover UHF

Predates Midhurst, and doesn't mention any UHF realys (notably the two major ones at Brighton and Salisbury)

The listings, from 21 January 1972, predate Brighton and Salisbury as well as Midhurst. UHF from all three transmitters commenced later in 1972.

You're right! I'd forgotten how far the IBA lagged behind BBC 1 at some relay sites

Interesting that Newhaven used to be part of the South opt on Southern Television rather than South East. I'm assuming Newhaven in those days covered Brighton until Whitehawk Hill UHF came into operation?

Newhaven VHF (that was the last IBA VHF relay to open, and was delayed by a year, because the transmitter was re allocted to Sheffield to mitigate against Emley's collapse in 69) was a Chillerton Down fed relay. UHF Newhaven, was fed from Heathfield. There was never an ITV VHF relay at Whitehawk Hill, the only source of ITV VHF in Brighton was Chillerton Down. Newhaven VHF I don't think had much radiation towards the west.

So, I think VHF and UHF Newhaven always carried different sub regions for Southern.

This is FM radio coverage from Newhaven, VHF TV would have been broadly the same

ITV NI isn't far away then I reckon.

It's gonna be very strange not hearing Paul Clark say "Good Evening, your watching UTV Live at Six".

I'm still thinking it could be

ITV News Ulster

or something similar.

ITV News Ulster is a strong contender. to go with ITV News Anglia, Central, Wales etc.
Alfie Mulcahy and DeeMartie gave kudos

I guarantee the word ‘Ulster’ will not be used.

They could reinvent it as ITV News: Scene @ Six

Hence cutting the word Ulster out completely

Is it time for that conversation again?

Given recent woes they might as well just go with ITV Border.

That’s actually a good idea. Not necessarily that title, but a title that makes no geographical reference. We already have Calendar and Lookaround which work well. The voiceover before the news could say “and now the local news for the *insert programme title* region”.

Was just having a look back at some of the old branding on utv and came across some names itv could use and it would not cause offence 1 UTV reports was used, could be used as ITV News: Reports 2 UTV Roundabout could be used as ITV News: Aroundabout or as said before ITV News: Scene @ Six
