I think that ITV could have incorporated the UTV continuity team into the main ITV National team...some days we would have Andrew or Andrea live announcing from London, other days Gillian or Julian live on the ITV Network from the Belfast Booth. Then whoever was on the night shift before would pre-record the daytime announcements, ready for either London or Belfast to take over live continuity from 4pm the next day.

And what has Britain done to Northern Ireland to deserve that? (Actually, perhaps best we don't go there).

Julian is a dated continuity announcer who was lucky that UTV stuck with that style as long as he did. He wouldn't last 5 minutes on the ITV network of today.

As far as Julian goes, he’s basically Marmite - you love his style or hate it. Personally, from what I’ve seen, I think both Julian and Gillian are more suited to IVC/presenting than OOV announcements. BBC announcers like Al Duprez and Duncan Newmarch excel at bringing humour and personality to a voiceover, perhaps because that’s where their experience lies. Julian’s facial expressions and NVC were all part of his “acting the lig” which may be partly why his personality doesn’t come across as well OOV. But, like I said, different strokes for different folks.

Yes I agree Julian & Gillian both shine when it comes/came to invision announcing, they really engage with the viewers and it does feel like they are talking to you directly, one to one.

However since the out of vision announcing/pre-recording full time started in October 2016 - April 2020, I still wholeheartedly feel that J & G have really shown just how adaptable they are, having to try and connect with the viewer when recording a piece of audio for 2 evenings in advance...and then no doubt many various alternate announcements recorded just in case of schedule changes, and trying to keep it all sounding like one continuous flow when having to record several announcements in one session, changing their tone and style for welcome Morning announcements/daytime stuff and then announcements for more serious stuff in the evening.... all while under time pressures in the booth, to get 2 days worth of announcements in the can!

They both adapted well to the changes in the way of working from the 'old UTV' to the modern and more professional looking 'ITV style/standards of UTV' we've experienced these past few years.

Some of my personal favourite's from J & G were their 7pm announcements welcoming us to the evening line up.

"Hi there! whata boutye, welcome to our Monday night line up here on UTV....Where something something something bla bla bla in Emmerdale"

"Thursday evening here on UTV, You're all very welcome, hope you're well? Bla bla bla bla bla in Emmerdale"

"Lovely to have you with us this Tuesday Evening here on UTV, The Tonight programme is in half an hour...Bla bla bla bla bla bla, after Emmerdale"

Friendly, personal, warm and welcoming, and to the point all in under 20 seconds. What more can you ask for?
I just dont get whats dated about them? and why folk think these 2 would go down like a lead balloon if they were national announcers on the ITV Network?

ITV have missed a trick not bringing them into the Network announcing team fold and doing 'Live from Belfast' announcements to 3 of the UK Nations.

Really don’t think it had would have worked. Their style was fine for NI but not for a UK-wide audience.

They definitely did them in 2016 and 2017, incorporated into pre-recorded IVC links. After that, I’m not sure.

After almost 10 months without UTV Life, I don't think I'll ever be as happy to her that generic theme music as I will next week.

However couldn't the UTV Life team or frankly anyone at UTV have spent some of the time off the air redesigning the awful logo, titles and on screen graphics

Great news to see Auntie Pammy back. The UTV Life set has been socially distanced even before it became the 'in thing' so I expect no changes.

Here's the first episode of the 'current look' from 2018 when the show started to come from its new home at City Quays 2.

It's not gonna be the same though from this series for me...No Julian introducing it, No UTV Dog, just doesn't feel right..."UTV Life on ITV"?!?

And normally UTV Life is mentioned in continuity announcements leading up to it throughout the week and in daytime on the day itself (i.e. Fridays when it use to be on at 8pm). I'm only expecting the weekly UTV Life promo trailer as the only thing we'll get this week leading up to it.
