Noticed that the graphics underneath the scorebar advertising future games now use flags in the host broadcaster style (gold bordered lozenge, deeper colours), rather than the square BBC design.
Noticed many mentions of UHD during this match tonight. I presume therefore that the tests, which haven't been promoted heavily, till now have been successful and that they have decided that they can handle more requests. If so it's very encouraging for the servi
It's not without it's issues but I do think VAR has been implemented much better in the World Cup than in the UK cups and generally been a success. Long overdue of course - other sports have had their own systems for years.
The Premier League and Champions League have already ruled it out for next year and think they may look somewhat behind the times in doing so.
May I suggest we vote to change the meaning of shambles in the dictionary to 'France v Australia, 2018 World Cup'?
I reckon "Iran v Portugal, 2018 World Cup" stands a better chance of becoming the new meaning of "shambles" in the dictionary - as does "Spain v Morocco, 2018 World Cup"...
Well that’s the closest I’ve been to swearing on live TV! What I really wanted to say is that VAR is complete and utter bollocks!!🤣🤣 #IranPortugal#VAR#RussiaWorldCup2018
Has there ever been a time where ITV and/or the BBC have cross-promoted that an England game was on the other side?
I doubt they ever have explicitly but certainly been tongue in cheek references to "the other side".
I'm guessing there must be an agreement not to show highlights before 10.30pm as the BBC have bumped Newsnight to 11.15pm for highlights on Thursday night. You'd think if they're showing them on BBC2 they'd air them at 10pm if they could.
You have to feel sorry for everyone working on ITV4's coverage of Panama v Tunisia this Thursday.
What a gig.
Not only is it a dead rubber between eliminated teams, but there aren't any famous players to chat about (yesterday's dead rubber between Egypt and Saudi at least featured Mo Salah).
As if it couldn't get any worse, it goes up against the England match on ITV.
On the other hand, good opportunity for B-team and up-and-coming talent etc to cut their teeth. You forget there are scores of these "unloved" games every season with the multi-match-screen coverage of Champions League group games that are of zero interest to certain audiences but whose English-language coverage may be seen and heard by other audiences around the world and used for highlights packages etc.
I for one was grateful to the English-language crew who worked Sweden v Denmark and Sweden v Peru in the Warm Up matches for C-More, whose coverage was taken up by BeIn Sports USA, for example.

I wouldn’t mind the gig I am abroad and commentating on the sport I love.
