The Los Angeles set doesn't look too bad. If they do give 47 a face lift, they could look at the LA studio for inspiration

Fun fact: the CBS News LA desk dates back to KCAL's 2003 set. The desk was moved into CBS' new facilities in Studio City in 2007. It too was designed by BDI, which has designed the CBS Evening News set since 1996. So yeah, there probably are a few similarities between the KCBS/KCAL sets and the BDI-designed CBS sets in New York.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this.
The Walter Cronkite era news set map that was part of the CBS This Morning set has been removed and replaced with a videowall. I hope that it's being moved to the CBS Evening News set. The Evening News continues to come from Studio 57.

Actually, they moved it to a different side of the set. The side of the set is typically seen during CBS This Morning Saturday. The map is seen here:

Correct. I at first was horrified that they replaced it with a video wall, but then I saw that they moved it to that other wall, and all was right in the world again. You can see where they moved it in some caps I posted two pages back: http://www.tvforum.co.uk/forums/post1033916#post-1033916

Evening News is coming from Studio 57 again this week. Weeters on TVNT said that Evening News is in 57 permanently, and that 47 may be repurposed for CBSN (not yet a confirmed plan.) To me, that would make a lot of sense. Evening News looks great in 57, and 47 would give CBSN a lot more room to grow.

It would make sense for CBSN to have a proper set in the event of breaking news and possibly more programming

Although it could lose some of its energy if it moved out of the newsroom and into a set. Good though the Evening News is staying put.

The glassed walled newsroom set that MSNBC and NBC News used this July for a few months has returned for NBC Nightly News. The set was deconstructed for their election night coverage where they added an additional video wall (where the windows are seen) and redid the desk configuration. Now it's back to its original state. I'm not sure if MSNBC used it today.

Edit : The set was in use today on MSNBC. Worth noting that there are no echo issues in this glass walled set.

It's official: the CBS Evening News is staying in Studio 57.

Personally, I'll be quite sad to see the programme leave Studio 47 after 20 years. I've always felt it was the most impressive of all the network evening news sets.

I'd love to see CBSN move in there from their poky current space, but not sure how likely that is.

I can see the budget needs for streamlining the news division to one space. But i dont like it. I like studio 57 for a morning program. Its casual with its brick walls and all that. (yes I know MSNBCs newsroom features brick walls) But for premier news broadcast of a major network that has been increasing in viewership....i dont know. It just doesnt seem right. I wont stop watching, but it feels weird. I was half expecting CBS News to finally rip down their wooden cave and build something bright and modern. Kinda makes the broadcast feel like the helpless family member that moves in and has to sleep on the couch. Just odd.
Oh well. Carry on CBS News. Wonder what Uncle Walter would think?

To be honest, as soon as they moved I never expected the program to move back. 57 has everything 47 had and more.

This is no different from the BBC housing Breakfast, One, Six, Ten and the News Channel in TC7 and N8 back when they were in TV Centre. It saves money to have one or two sets from where everything emanates - saves money in a variety of ways.

Right call by CBS. Studio 57 looks modern and fresh, distinctive from the rest. 47 looked quite tired IMO.
