Anyone know if there was any mention or a feature about the new set on the main edition? Chris mentioned it briefly at the end of the late bulletin.
They said a few words just before the "Coming Up" bit. I think they said something about Richard (weather) being in the new studio and not on the freezing roof top too...

Thanks - oh bet there was a few titters!
...also, forgot to mention, at the start - just before the first story, they said about their new set and it being the same Points West with the same presenters and that...
I have to admit I don't like the new set... Points West has lost its sofa and its cosiness such a shame! Not nearly as bad as the ITV West set though.
I think it's quite refreshing to see a news studio with just a desk in it. The news isn't supposed to be cosy with sofas and cushions and wooly jumpers. So big well done Points West I say, A News studio that looks fit to give the news.
Regional news programmes are meant to be magazines though, a more relaxed set often compliments the format.

I agree with Ben, Points West is a cosy regional news show, mainly because bugger all happens in the West, so the programme is normally padded out with silly stories and that's what the sofa was for. Main news at the desk, sofa for the rest. The presenters looking a bit stiff now stuck behind that desk and as for the awful side angle shot!
It's silly to think that one of the most important regions in terms of the levels of non-padded content, BBC London, has such a weak excuse for both a desk and a studio. Personally I prefer this studio to those with sofa areas, but do appreciate the view that bounding them to a desk can lose a programmes cosiness.
Looks like its slightly smaller than the South Today set, but that might just be because they've got a double size desk.
Bristol's studio is actually smaller than Southampton's. When it was carved up in 1996, the original Studio-A became a lot smaller. I've heard it's no bigger than the old Bristol Studio-B, but I can't confirm that. From those pictures posted earlier in the thread it looks like they've crammed the biggest set they can into the space available and they've clearly gone for a stand-up presentation area and a desk, rather than a desk and a sofa like at Southampton. In fact, when Southampton do stand-up sequences they can look a little awkward as they've standing just to one side of the desk...
Well I have to say what an excellent set, its got so much depth and isn't too fussy. Better that BBC London news by miles (too mush red and swooshing going on there) and dare I say, the main BBC news studio. Well done BBC Bristol!
ITV West/Westcountry seem to have more weather presenters that most ITV regions. I know Alex is covering on ITV National weather at the moment but they still have Bob, Kate, Peter. Dan Downs also turned up on the weekend forcasts this weekend! Most regions only have 2 presenters. Bob seemed to do most weekdays tho when ive watched the ITV Westcountry News.
Though it never ceases to amaze me how much quality is lost during transmission and how Sky+ HD boxes especially put a lot of contrast on the image, so the background is barely visible. It makes you wonder why professionals spend so much on editing monitors to make the colours and the picture look just right, for it to be ruined by a Sky+ HD box or a TV with a 'Vivid Colour' mode turned on by default. Rant over
