I love that its "closed until 10:30" in my mind someone turns a little shop window "open/closed" sign around on their way out. Rather than just being un/understaffed which is rather more sad.

The old fashioned term for an unbooked, unstaffed studio is "dark", though that traditionally meant there's no set in it either. Comes from the theatre I think.

Yeah. Wouldn't describe E as 'dark' when it is still being used 7 days a week. Off-air probably a more normal way of describing it.

Yes, I think off air is a good term, rather than dark or closed!

I wonder why they don't get Annita to present a 15 minute bulletin from the desk side of the Victoria Derbyshire studio - which is staffed - this seems like an odd arrangement which is just about acceptable during the overnight hours but not really in the middle of the day. This way, both UK and (some) World viewers lose out by receiving a sub-par service.

Just turned on the NC and they are currently reporting the Syria Air Strikes, using a special version of the Outside Source program (as in what's used on the touchscreen, not the actual programme) with generic BBC News colouring (red banners, grey buttons, etc.) has this been done before (After General Election screen)

They use the Outside Source screen quite a bit now. They used it last week when the Autumn Statement was on and I've also seen it during coverage of the plane crash last month

I know I criticised this a few days ago, but the new pushback is quite useful right now. Instead of Ben pulling out of the interview, the sidebar appeared to alert the viewers of the Breaking News. This new sidebar is very flexible and can show anything from quotes, tweets, maps, live feeds. Even the "more to follow" ellipsis animates.

This would be very useful if the NC is to go online only.

Seems like the pushback is now being used on World too.

This arrangement may however have led to a further small reduction in presenter air time overall saving a little more money.

If cost-cutting really is the game they are playing while "delivering quality first", which is very much misnamed, they should scrap the morning presenter completely and simulcast GMT between 11 and 12 with 9-9:15 & 12-1 being presented by the world news presenter, with the 2-5 presenters starting at 1:30 instead of 2. This would save even more money.

Well this is not doing any favors to Geeta's late morning shift. First the extended GMA took her final hour and now a NC presenter does her 10.00 cet bulletin. She's left with just 9 and 11.00 cet bulletins. From a 4 hour shift to this. I guess they managed to cut costs on her. Rolling Eyes

Why can't they just simulcast 15 minutes of World News with a WN presenter?

An extended BBC News at Ten tonight, 55 minute long special.

BBC News not taking Outside Source because of the MP vote. Julian Worricker in C this time instead of A normally used for the 9 hour. I believe this is because OS is produced from studio A.
