A very minor thing that's bugging my ear - when in Studio C, there appears to be a tiny bit of silence before they restart the thunderclap. Stops it from sounding like one continuous track. Has anyone else noticed this?

I think this problem has always been around. I even remember it being mentioned on day one of NBH. Someone said its because they restart the bed rather than adding a thunderclap.

Can anyone else hear the gap before each thunderclap? It's really distracting with my headphones on.

They do re-start the bed and I'm guessing there is a small gap at the start of the file. I'm fairly sure they still use SpotOn as their audio playout system and I know it's possible to tell SpotOn to play a file from a given cue point. Or they could just delete the silence from the file! I think it's also possible for SpotOn to be programmed so that it does a slight crossfade between tracks - I'm sure there are ways round the problem.

New Broadcasting House being evacuated according to reports. The News Channel's still on-air though...

EDIT: Apparently not evacuated...

I was actually watching the NC and had noticed many people making their way to one side of the newsroom all looking over in one direction, thought it was odd.

You can see lots of people stood up, some of these moved over with phones in hand etc.

If you look back on iPlayer, at the bit where Ben hands back after Business

Happens to be a suspicious vehicle outside the BBC. Just makes me remember the car bomb at TVC in 2001.

Yep, no evacuation, though for a while people couldn't get in, and no one could leave. All clear now.

One thing I find interesting is that it appears they are keeping the deck of stories in what I would guess to be within the 4:3 safe zone. I thought the BBC and others worked on 14:9.

No - UK broadcasters officially dropped 14:9 when analogue outlets (which usually carried 14:9 content in 14:9 letterbox) ceased to be an issue after the last analogue transmitter was switched off. BBC Sport pretty much dropped it immediately for some domestic shows.

Almost all UK domestic commissions and productions are now only required to be 16:9 graphics safe. UK 16:9 gfx safe rules are 5% in from top and bottom of frame, 10% in from left and right of frame. (BBC have a different rule for credits - so that they remain 16:9 gfx safe when the ECP slide happens)

AIUI the 5% is to allow for some overscan on modern 16:9 displays (which usually default to relatively mild overscanning), the 10% is to allow for some overscan on older 4:3 CRTs displaying 16:9 letterboxed content (which could be more extreme, but won't be as bad top and bottom because of letterbox bars) I don't think 4:3 centre-cut viewers are really considered now...

Some content is commissioned to be safer than this, and you don't have to push safe areas, you are allowed to bring things in from the edges if you think it looks better.

The story that BH had been evacuated appeared on several news outlets (including ITV news website) and spread on Twitter. Presumably this started from people standing around outside All Souls who assumed the BBC had been evacuated?

In circumstances like a suspicious vehicle, being held inside a building can be safer than evacuating thousands of people out to the street, where the danger is obviously far greater.

Indeed and I thought I rememberednot being said before the building was occupied that the news centre was designed with security in mind. In addition NBH is not a small space and so I'd imagine any evacuation would be unlikely to be the full building. Isn't at least one or two studios in different parts for various reasons to continue providing news in case of issues in other parts of the building?

The 9am bulletin came from Studio C this morning and seemed to be a simulcast with World, though Annita McVeigh was presenting. The newsroom backdrop was used. There was the usual "You're watching BBC News" statement for World to go to break around quarter past, also allowing Victoria Derbyshire to begin shortly afterwards, but presumably Annita then presented the rest of the half hour bulletin for World.

Not sure why this was the case, perhaps the presenter due on World became unavailable.

Posted elsewhere - studio E is now closed until 10:30 since Monday (cost cutting).

The 9am bulletin is now a simulcast on both channels and presented by the news channel presenter who continues on World News until 09:30.

Mentioned on Monday, when the new format began. It is 'cost cutting' meaning a gallery team isn't needed for 9-9:15 so simulcast instead.
