Actually, the current BBC 2 Christmas Ident set is probably the best they've had for years. I hope they continue using it. It wouldn't jar much with the 90s idents.

The two Christmas sets were a lot better than the rest of the previous sets of idents. Dispute their repeated use they are still wonderful especially the last few years idents as they have so much contained in them.

NI showed a Kebab sting at 11:50AM this morning, before Lorraine Pascale: How to be a Better Cook.

Unless somebody can confirm that there was a Kebab sting in the 1991-2001 era, I suppose it's possible it was a two-second snippet of Kebab ident (without logo), used as if it were a sting (?).

I've been reliably informed that it is an original sting.

I see you can choose regional variants now of BBC One and Two on Iplayer now. How often are the regional idents used on BBC 2 for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland?

I don't think they have a stream of NI then. When i switched the option to Northern Ireland the stream had a network announcer.

I know you can see the listing for each area but I don't think the live feeds are here just yet.

This works for all three nations on One and Two - needs an underscore for NI though.

(Edit: worth pointing out that it doesn't work by toggling the location setting alone yet - you still get Network unless you go to the link above, or via bbc.co.uk/iplayer/categories/northern-ireland - same for Wales and Scotland)

Wendy from London wrote into 'Radio Times' proclaiming how much "that jolly number two....between the programmes" makes her day and and how much Swan makes her chuckle. In response RT quoted a "BBC spokesman" as saying "I'm pleased to let you know that the plan is to keep these retro idents on air for the foreseeable future and into 2015" . On the downside it's a shame this doesn't seem to be a stop-gap before something new but on the bright side It's good to know that in these uncertain times middle england, at least, will be chuckling for the foreseeable future.

This is good news. Long may it continue! Very Happy

I agree. They should keep these and just add to the set to keep it fresh.

Ducks Sting introduced on Network last night, before Strictly - It Takes Two.

Nice to see special emphasis was put on the promo end-board for 'An Extra slice' as it moves from Friday to tonight this week - they didn't mention it verbally in the promo but even underlined the fact it was tonight and not the normal slot. It's a little difference but nice they bothered.

Meanwhile, the 'Have I got News for you' promo on BBC One in bake-off style is superb.
