If there's one thing I hope is learnt from all of this, it's how important good sound design is to the process. Just take that Woodpecker as an example - the little audio accompaniment as each '2' enters, the attention to minute detail is astounding in almost every one these short films and is an integral, if often unrecognised part of what makes these idents so cherished and remembered.
The return of Woodpecker is very welcome. I'm still holding out for one or two of the more abstract ones over the coming weeks/months, but seeing Woodpecker will be refreshing.
And I agree with you, Jonny. In fact, pretty much the whole of the Millennium batch were pretty strong. They were clearly intended to be in service longer than the 20 or so months they actually had first time round.

No more Alt-J.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there Jonny. With these both musical, Sfx and visual are brilliant, but even with less stunning visuals (take itv for example) the use of a musical score that's the same in all presentation and suits the mood of the visuals completely enhances their appeal.

I agree - music can really make an ident. I don't think we'd have loved Carlton's heart idents half as much had it not been for the wonderful rich, dramatic music that accompanied them.

I think this say much more about the company who made both.
