And in case anyone's wondering what a LaserDisc player looks like:

I remember we had one of these Laserdisc recorders in one of our machine rooms, about 15 years ago.

Yes. Wonder if someone's actually got the laser disk for those idents in tact somewhere. Certainly, it's a shame no one has a better quality capture of Silk and some of the others in full.

There were (still are?) some very high quality captures including the BBC logo uploaded to MHP that looked like they had come straight from the source, so hopefully someone has.

I have a few clean BBC2 idents from the 1991-2001 era (but with BBC logo added), which I recorded straight to S-VHS in the mid-nineties, when BBC2 used to broadcast them clean, at closedown. I have Paint, Silk, Car (2nd version), Shadow and Steam. I carefully transferred them to DVD about 5 years ago. They all run to about 45 seconds, are still in pretty good shape, and in their original stereo sound. I will have to upload them to YouTube at some point.

That would be awesome, D. Page. The logo's small fry. I only remember seeing them with the logo anyway.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

I've already uploaded the Steam clean ident (part of closedown) and it goes for about 50 seconds (in stereo too!) on my clip:

I've dug out my recordings of the clean BBC2 idents I mentioned, played them through, and looked at the notes I made at the time.

Let me correct myself. I thought they were all roughly the same length, but, in actual fact, the lengths do differ somewhat. They are as follows:

Paint 50"
Silk 41"
Car (2nd Version) 25"
Shadow 49"
Steam 32"

Also, looking at my notes, my copy of Steam is a VHS > S-VHS second generation copy, and the quality is not quite as good as the others, as a result. So, it is fortunate that benriggers has uploaded his copy of Steam, as it is of higher quality than my copy, as well as being quite a bit longer, and, thankfully, also in stereo. All the rest of my copies are first generation S-VHS, and their quality is, generally, very good. And, as they are all safely on DVD now, none of my copies will deteriorate any further.

This has probably been mentioned elsewhere, but for fans of the music used in the BBC2 1991-2001 idents, some of them are here:

http://www.unippm.co.uk/#/browse/browsed-results.aspx?SelectedCDId=965

Scroll down to 'Design & Technology' section, and there is the following:

Wind Time (Paint) 30" - though, not the version that was broadcast
Inhale (Neon/Optic) 46"
Puff Ball (Firecracker) 1'06"
Abstraction (Crystal Ball) 1'09"
Harmonic Beauty (Diary) 53"
Forest Canopy (Gorilla) 32"

and, under 'Bizarre, Black Comedy' section:

Arabian Freakact (Kebab) 32"

Great quality, stereo sound, and some are to an extended length.

Wow, thanks for finding those! Im sure most of us on here have been waiting to hear those for many years.

To add to the list, the track Pneumonic was used as the music for the BBC2 Nightschool TV ident from 1992 to 1995.

I think you're referring to Pneumonic Very Happy . Yes, I played that track and, although it sounded very reminiscent of some of the others, and even some musical elements seemingly identical, I didn't include it in the list, as I've never seen that Nightschool ident before. I was obviously always tucked up in bed a long time before that ident ever appeared on my TV!

Here it is, for anyone who's interested (at 2:45):

That information has been common knowledge for a while, why some people have failed to been informed about this is anyone guess.

Just for the Record: STV has nearly all its music done in the same way and is on K, P, M library. I.e composed and then put on library to make more money. I think ATV and Central did this back in the days.

All library are very happy for people to LISTEN ON INTER WEB, it when people want copies and downloads the trouble starts. So don't bother asking.
