Sounds like there were some serious problems this morning with a lot of regions unable to opt on Freeview at 7.30 this morning, but fine on satellite.

Interesting ? I thought the actual opt switching for regional BBC 1 was still performed locally, despite a backhaul to the CCM, and then on to relevant the local Tx(s) ?

Sounds like a routing fault at the CCM centre(s) ?

Unless the DTT distribution completely failed, and the DTT transmitters fell back to their D-Sat RBS feeds, which for English transmiitters only has the London feed available ?

Certainly sounds like the DTT routing has fallen apart - Hull being shown from Emley and Leeds from Winter Hill!

So the north west got Leeds Look North, and yet Leeds got Look North Hull!?! Something is definitely seriously amiss there.

Here in Hull, we did get the right regional news.... but the presenter, when apologising for viewers having the wrong Look North, failed to mention that it was Look North Hull that we were watching... wouldn't be a problem, except that there's a third region that uses the Look North name - BBC North East & Cumbria, aka the Tyne Tees region. She should've said that it was the Yorks & Lincs Look North.

Did that debut a couple of nights ago? I think I spotted it after they showed the preview trail.

Did the West Midlands get the correct news on all platforms, other than Sky? Ive seen no complaints so I guess everything was ok.

I just saw the explanation from Breakfast of the opting problems on Thursday. It was probably a very confusing and/or meaningless announcement for a lot of viewers. It sounded like they just read out an internal email and so ended up using words like 'opting' on air which is not something that most viewers are going to be that familiar with in this context. Also, they didn't use the correct region names. Lots of viewers will know which region they are in or at least what their regional news is called, let's say South East [Today] or [Look] East, but fewer will know that they are in the 'Tunbridge Wells' or 'Cambridge' regions especially when they live nowhere near the named town or city. Anyway, this problem only seemed to affect Freeview which wasn't mentioned on air.

As a member of TV Forum, I do welcome this openness, it makes a nice change from the meaningless 'due to technical problems' that we hear so often but I do wonder what non TV Forum members made of it.

In other news, I notice the big one out of Outnumbered (not Hugh Dennis, the boy) was on Let's Dance for Sport Relief last night. It was nice to see him appearing without the two young children who have so far held him back. He was dancing with Tracy Beaker who as a former child star now in her mid 30s, seemed to be the perfect partner to help him break away from the child roles that he has so far been typecast in. This all seemed to be coming together to form the ideal combination to catapult him from child star to fully grown up boy man actor, someone who The Inbetweeners would be happy to be seen with.

All seemed to be going well for him until the song choice was revealed, someone had decided that he and Beaker were going to dance to a song from Bugsy Malone, a film that obviously has an unshakable association with child stars. What a disaster! After all the dances, the little boy character from Outnumbered was briefly interviewed, would it have been too much to expect Hugh Dennis and/or the woman to be there? Anyway, by that time it didn't matter, it was already too late.

So this year will mark 6 years of the current BBC One look, but yet that blasted 'BBC ONE' box logo still crops up from time to time, yesterday being used on a Sport promo after Final Score. Rolling Eyes

Well spotted. I was surprised and a bit bemused to still see that on TV as well yesterday. Consistent branding is not difficult!

Wow! Didn't realise it'd been that long. Some new idents would be nice. Bored of all of the current ones.
