It's not a waste of money.... they filmed them they showed them for a few (?) years and now they've re-edited them.

Making short versions originally wouldn't have been any cheaper!

I hope we do still get to see the old full idents every now and then! Sad

Before, back in the olden days when BBC One had a globe, they could cut instantly into the ident and start talking.

As someone who prefers that older style of presentation, I've never been keen on the lengthy form-ups on the modern idents, in some cases was as much as fifteen seconds which is far too long for something that gets shown so frequently. I think these re-edits are a vast improvement, now most of the faff has gone and the circle remains on screen for longer. In particular I love the new version of Kites! My only slight reservation is that in most cases so far the logo starts to appear before the circle is formed, which looks slightly odd.

Got to say this - but these are piss poor! Sorry for the inappropriate use of language, but how can the BBC massacre their best ever idents like this? The new idents do not make any sense at all - there's no form up to the ident, the music is awful and overall, they are truly awful! If they had created all new idents with a different concept to these circle idents and they had formed up within the 1st 3 secords - well fine. But to completely re-edit and recut these much longer well-loved idents down to a mere 3 seconds or so of action is totally inappropriate, misguided, unthinkable and unforgivable. What would everyone be saying if Channel 4 followed suit and just showed 2 second form up of their current idents? There would be outrage!

I feel the BBC have made a serious mistake in doing this and I hope they see sense and restore the original uncut versions without delay!

I concur fully with this statement. Although I'd hate to see the long cuts go, I love the new cuts of the idents, and the new music on Kites, Capes and Bikes is excellent.

They don't need a logo to form straight away for us to know we're watching BBC One. We know we are watching BBC One both because of the familiar idents we are all used to and because of the fact that it says so on our television. To simply butcher all imagination and creativity out of the idents in favour of a logo appearing quickly is a total no-brainer for me!

I will take an exception to Footballers, where the new music is awful .

Apart from that, I like them. This may be a 2012 Olympics logo case: eventually, they may start to grow on people.

Edit I will also point out that the musical hook is far more prominent in these new cuts, which can only be a good thing.

Well, this is one very sad day for BBC1. Sadder than 29th March 2002.

What a completely unnecessary move - what a balls up.

I knew I'd seen a red version of the logo form-up before somewhere...

I have to say I don't actually mind them as much as I expected to. In a way it's quite refreshing to see them looking slightly different, and to hear different music (though the choice for Bikers is rather out of keeping). And as much as I loved the shots before the logo form-up, the shots after form-up are still very nice to look at anyway (kites looks great), so I won't be complaining too much. I certainly wouldn't say the idents have been ruined .

Having said that I will certainly miss the old cuts. Shame they couldn't have kept them and mixed these ones in.

I guess had we not been in the midst of a recession we might have been expecting new idents in a year or two anyway (plus we have a new controller), so a bit of recycling and refreshing is not such a bad idea...
