Are we going to get BBC One HD regions? (even if it's just Wales, Scotland and NI)

Nations (ie N.I, Scotland, Wales) yes- due this year. Regions- long way off.

Not a long way off per se, just a long way off FINANCIALLY. Technologically could happen soon! Most regions have some HD kit in edit, just not the galleries or tech end!

It is a long way off if there's no money to do it and the regions aren't anywhere near technically set up to deliver HD. The whole broadcast chain would need updating in most regions (from ingest to output). That's before you get to the distribution costs. You were trying to be pedantic and failing miserably.

BBC One Scotland before Pointless: Hippos ident, original unedited length but with the superimposed logo forming up at the start. Probably old news but it rather surprised me.

Apart from Glasgow and Salford, I think the nearest most regions have to HD infrastructure is some KMW 350s and/or PMW 500s location cameras - and maybe some FCPs that might just be up to it. (Not sure about the Quantel kit - suspect it is SDI not HD-SDI I/O based)

The core infrastructure (routers, vision mixers, cameras etc.) in most regions is resolutely SD, and upgrading to HD would be of the same order of magnitude as switching from PAL composite to SD digital (which many regions did only when they moved buildings)

It's financial of course - but it's also a lot more than that. Edits are the easiest thing to upgrade - you can do them over a weekend. It takes a LOT longer to rewire an entire apps bay, and replace your entire vision infrastructure. (The One Show did it in 3 weeks during the 2010 summer break - but that was when they were off air)
