Prior to 1974, all of North Yorkshire (including Middlesborough - which use/still is in God's County) got YTV. With the franchise renewal in that year, most of North Yorkshire got a better picture from Tyne Tees.
It is still possible to get YTV in York and the rest of North Yorkshire, but the topography of the area means that some areas get a better picture from Tyne Tees. This was resolved some years ago when after the merger YTTV created 'Network North' which carried a blend of reports from YTV and TTTV.
YTV ran a major campaign in 1990 to get people to retune to YTV especially in York. They even paid for the said re-tuning.
Quite right!!! You don't live in York and you've never said you've been there, so you probably didn't know what one receive in the city until I wrote my detailed posts this evening.
Anything else about TTTV, BBC NE&C and their coverage, just ask (either by PM or in the BBC North East and Cumbria, Tyne Tees and Border thread)
You are a one topic bore-a-thon.
I agree with Square Eyes here - David, you've got to stop coming over all high-handed and rude when people on here disagree with your opinion. An example of which are your reply to Aston when you said "Got it? Good!!" and "Just so you know..." This is what gets peoples' backs up the most, so please try not to use them when you converse with others on here. It's also not helpful when defending your corner to constantly resort to the transmitter line of attack to embolden your argument. To reply to Aston with "AAAARRRGGGH, FFS, Aston!!! Don't you read my posts properly? Obviously not." is extremely rude and unwarranted.
Please try as hard as you can to make an effort to be more tolerant of people on here like Aston who have a different point of view to yours and respond more calmly and reasonably to those that have different opinion to yours.

Katherine, exactly my opinion also - the full on agression with no provocation makes me ask myself serious questions as to why I post here.

No, Bilsdale never carried YTV. Since it went on air in 1971, Bilsdale always carried TTTV. I found this out from the vast collection of IBA handbooks in the York Uni library.
Middlesbrough USED TO BE in Yorkshire (North Riding) but it is now in Cleveland, a county in the NORTH EAST ENGLAND political region.

Yes, YTV is receivable in most areas of York and yes, a lot of people tune into Emley. I, however, do not get good reception of YTV from either Emley or Belmont and Bilsdale is the only transmitter offering good TV reception. This the case for many people in the city using an indoor aerial and there are even areas of York where only Bilsdale is viewable even with an outdoor aerial. This is due to buildings (esp. tall ones) or city walls.
As for "YTV being available in the rest of North Yorkshire", well that just isn't entirely true. Many, many areas of the county only get Tyne Tees (Richmond; Whitby; most of the North York Moors; Wensleydale, Swaledale and their side valleys like Coverdale and Arkengarthdale) and even in the huge YTV/TTTV overlap area many people have their aerials directed towards Bilsdale and therefore have Tyne Tees because reception of Bilsdale is far, far better than reception of Emley.
This is the case in Ripon, Northallerton, Thirsk, Pickering and Malton, where most aerials are directed towards Bilsdale, and like in York, there are areas of Harrogate and Knaresborough where only Bilsdale is viewable.

Well, that's their loss. Those people are missing out on the excellent coverage of the city of York and the rest of North Yorkshire on Tyne Tees. I haven't seen YTV as often but I've found that Calendar doesn't cover York and other places of North Yorks as well as North East Tonight on Tyne Tees.
Tyne Tees have a studio in Billingham, Cleveland which covers Cleveland, North Yorkshire and southern parts of Co Durham. For more details, see the BBC North East and Cumbria, Tyne Tees and Border thread.
You know nothing about me, my life and the city I live in!!!
Why don't go on another forum and irritate someone else like you've irritated me?
On yer bike, sunshine!!!
EDIT:
Re: apologising to Aston:
I only said what I said to him because he was REALLY getting my back up!!! He doesn't live where I live and he knows nothing about what one receives in York (well he didn't until I put him straight on that matter...)
