Since we are talking about France 3's regional channels, which is a discussion that I am enjoying, I have to say something quite interesting that I found when I checked the schedules of all of France 3's regional channels. I noticed that all of them have few regional opt-outs during the broadcast day, except for one. I would like to ask why France 3 Corse Via Stella, which is the regional France 3 for Corsica, instead of having few opt-outs during the day like all of the other channels, has instead an entire schedule completely different to the rest of France 3! Why is that?

That's an interesting one -

France 3 Corse Via Stella is actually a separate channel. In Corsica itself, the DVB-T multiplex carries both Via Stella and France 3 Corse (which is the same as the other 'regular' France 3 regional versions, with the national programme and local opt-outs for news etc).

However, because Via Stella also simulcasts all of the opt-outs that go out on France 3 Corse - Via Stella is the version carried on pay TV providers, rather than France 3 Corse. They can carry just the one channel without any programmes being unavailable (France 3 Sat can be watched instead for the non-Corsican stuff!)

I actually tried to find France 3 Corse, the regular regional channel, but there is no trace of it, not even on the official website, it seems that France 3 Corse Via Stella has replaced it

Thank you very much! I have just checked the livestream on that website with a VPN, and it shows France 3 Corse Via Stella

France 4 is scheduled to close next summer, and its content is expected to move online (Lumni, Okoo) and on France·tv's other channels.

But a parliamentary report, led by MPs Béatrice Piron (presidential & parliamentary majority) and Maxime Minot (French Republican Party, ~Conservative) says closing France 4 would only save 10 millions of euros, and not 40 millions as previously announced.

Piron and Minot point out that France·tv might lose viewers (to Gulli, the M6-owned competitor), that it could have trouble respecting its engagements in terms of childrens' programming, and that because 23% of houses still only receive television through the equivalent of Freeview the closing of France 4 may increase the social and geographical divides in France.

I hope this will help saving the channel. BTW do you remember when last year there were reports saying that BBC Three could return as a TV channel? Well that news has also been reported in France https://www.lesechos.fr/tech-medias/medias/au-royaume-uni-la-bbc-pourrait-faire-revenir-a-lantenne-bbc-three-1228490 the reason why Les Echos made an article about BBC Three's possible return, was because after France 4's closure was delayed by a year, people in France are hoping that BBC Threee's return as an on-air channel may convince the French government to scrap the closure of France 4 as a result. Also one of the apparent reasons for closing France 4, was that they wanted to imitate what the BBC did with BBC Three. It is well known that Macron wanted France Télévisions to become the French BBC. Plus some are thinking that another reason for the delay of France 4's closure was because they wanted to see what the BBC was going to do with BBC Three. And I know that I might be attacked because of my BBC3 obsession, but I am just reporting what I saw, Thank you

Bar Lumni and Okoo output, France 4 has really lost focus and is on borrowed time because of the pandemic. So they need to decide to either close it or keep it going with a regained purpose of serving the youth of France.

Guili on the other hand is an excellent FTA channel with a broad selection for the kids and occasionally a prime-time family film. I'm pleased M6 haven't really mucked about with the format since they acquired the channel.

If they keep it going and make it similar to what BBC Three once was (again sorry for mentioning it again) for the youth of the UK, I am all up for it!

Guili appears to be the odd one out of the tv channels M6 acquired from Lagardère. Some of the channels are music based and in the case of RFM TV, the sister radio station is still owned by Lagardère. The MCM division of M6 manages the music channels in their portfolio.

M6 seem to be really going for multi-platform brands. They have three radio stations, RTL (talk, formerly the French service of Radio Luxembourg), RTL2 (pop/rock) and Fun Radio (dance) in addition to the tv channels.

I thought that the RTL radio stations were still owned by RTL, and I also thought that RTL is still the French service of Radio Luxembourg

RTL sold the radio stations to the M6 Group of which RTL is the majority shareholder. (48.6%)

It's enabled the radio and tv brands to be sold as one entity where as before RTL's radio division and M6 were treated as separate businesses.

We've seen how M6 and RTL are already working together by simulcasting RTL on M6 during mid-mornings.

I've seen a trailer on for Culturebox on France 3 featuring Daphné Bürki, it appears to be launching on Monday evening at 19.35 CET.

I wonder if Culturebox is going to show only classical music concerts and operas or they will also show documentaries
