Have you ever worked in a TV studio?
Set building is its own craft that's separate from installing video walls, which is separate from integrating them with your broadcast infrastructure, which is separate from lighting, and rigging for sound...
Add in the current requirements for social distancing meaning far fewer people working on set at the same time. We don't know what else was going on behind the scenes that caused this project to take so long. Maybe under normal circumstances they could have squeezed it into a week's parliamentary recess, but giving themselves until the end of the summer break gave them plenty of time to work with new dependencies and time for piloting, etc

No. But I was specifically referring to the video wall build. A friend of mine does event production and has told me that once things are down a person could quickly build a video wall in a day or two - one similar to MSNBC’s 3A (which removed older video walls as well) that was done in a weekend. Additionally I’ve seen floors done quickly over two days (from time lapses of set construction and that one video of Peston’s set at ITV) and speaking to set designers on the process.

It’s a bit different here: the floor was torn up and relaid with a new design. It’s not just some paint or vinyl like you would find in other studios.

Was the floor completely leveled and redone? Or did they remove the old flooring and just lay down new ones.

No, the old flooring was removed, the base was properly cleaned, a new first layer and then a new top layer applied. However it’s not a quick process to get it completely flat - even if the underlying surface has been levelled, variation in the amount of adhesive etc. can cause problems.

Yesterday 9:55; displayed @Breakfast title card.

Also 10am TOH today and yesterday used the blue “News at Ten” strips usually seen at 10pm. A little strange to use the evening branding on the morning I thought.

On another note, Sophy Ridge on Sunday came from the glass box today as usual.

I know we don’t really discuss news-gathering on a pres forum, but quite odd they’re covering the Suffolk school shooting via their reporter sitting at home in West London, especially as it’s their top story. Given that’s it’s acceptable to have a location reporter on a mobile now (as the BBC had by 1300), it just seems strange. Sky used to make a big thing of winning on stories like this.

They had the skycopter grabbing aerials earlier, perhaps they just feel being on location doesn't bring anything extra. Not a bad shout, we should still be avoiding unnecessary travel really but thats another topic!

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I did chuckle at that all the way back to my batcave in my batmobile.

They have to be careful with stories like this as often the eyewitnesses are legally minors and I think broadcasters have got into trouble previously for interviewing them without parental consent.

Not the same thing I know, but I’ve been involved in TV shows when I was younger, and I don’t remember my parents ever being asked to sign a release.
