I have a very dim memory of BBC and another broadcaster sharing resources to help deliver a game in 3D perhaps? FA Cup Final broadcast by the BBC but put out on the Sky 3D channel?

In other news, this article aged well : https://www.whathifi.com/news/bbc-confirms-world-cup-coverage-and-theres-no-4k -- seems some journos interpreted a lack of specific mention as a definite sign of omission.

Unless OBZ is there for the UHD world feed?

Trust me, it’s not Cool

Yep, it’s an evaluation of HDR, more than UHD per se. Only a few cameras, and no actual match coverage. It’s a shake down of OBZ to iron out bugs etc

Almost - it was ESPN coverage of the Cup Final.

ITV using very FIFA-esque graphics on tonight's Eng/Nig match

Makes sense - Sky did all ESPN's production during their first year and there was even some cross-promotion IIRC

Sure beats the titles from four years ago, that wasn’t very good at all.

And here's how it was done

608 embroidered frames, captured through stop motion techniques. I'm guessing these are effectively keyframes with CGI interpolation for the frames in between them?

Very rough math (as I’m on a phone): Just under 46 seconds of ‘animation’. If every frame is doubled, that gives 25fps. That would suggest that every frame seen is embroidered.

Might be some CG to stabalise and elaborate, but I don’t think any whole frames were generated.

At 0:33 in that video, there's a sound that's ominously reminiscent of a shotgun about to be fired!

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but according to the BBC schedule site, BBC One is showing a full match replay of Russia vs Saudi Arabia (ITV) overnight on Thursday.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl6n/2018/06/14

This seems to be promotion over previous match replays from the 2014 WC, which were overnight on BBC Two.

However overnight on Friday, BBC One is showing a match replay of Portugal v Spain, which is the game they showed earlier in the evening. I am expecting that to actually be Morocco v Iran which is the ITV game.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl6n/2018/06/15

If these overnight replays are all ITV games, my guess is that is how they will be shown in 4K for people who want them, and they'll be available to view on iPlayer afterwards.
