French TV

If you're thinking of who I'm thinking of, how would you be able to tell it's any different from the usual Gold schedule?

It's hard for those of us in the Anglophone world to understand just how huge Johnny Hallyday was. He's French music royalty over there. A pioneer of French pop and rock and was still performing to packed stadiums until a few months ago.

So big in France, Hallyday's coffin will be driven round Paris on Sunday for fans to pay their last respects.

Speaking of French TV I've been trying to watch the French version of Bake Off on 6play.fr but all this week the playback has been stuttering, I tried on other programmes (those available outside France) and the same, but other wesbites stream fine. Does anyone else have this issue?

Can I suggest this piece of software that I discovered a few months ago. Capvty allows you to download shows from all the main French VOD providers, including 6Play as well as recording from the live streams to your PC. You'll need a VPN or Smart DNS to download obviously, but should resolve your issues.

Ah but can it translate subtitles on the fly as Google Chrome can?

I doubt it. It's not aimed at Francophiles, purely for the French domestic market. However, it's excellent for recording French tv streams without having to use a screen/game recorder for looking at pres from France.

I've found 6Play rather clunky to use with a browser. Luckily being in a bi-lingual household, we use Kodi addons which stream the content direct from the relevant VOD services without having to sideload the apps or use a browser.

TF1, France 2 and the news channels are showing Johnny Hallyday's memorial service. This has led to France Télévisions Téléthon being moved from France 2 to France 3. (The telethon usually moves between 2 and 3, but 2 was scheduled to air it this morning)

However, France 2 is showing a Téléthon DOG during the service.

France 5 too from 10am to 1pm.

France Télévision to have new logos

So France.2, France.3 (but with a bigger coloured dot and in the current channel logo colours - red for 2, blue for 3 etc..)

Same identity and font as France Info being rolled out to the numbered France Televisions channels.

So it’s technically the first proper change of logo in the best part of 25 years. They look nicer with the France name next to the numbers. I’m sure the presentation on screen will serve it more justice than the logos we can see there.

And again, probably putting to shame the BBC for its lack of consistency
