It all sounds pointless to me. They have a perfectly good studio.

They have a great studio, and there is a good change people don't really mind that much, but if it's a nice day then I'd argue that it's much better to be outside - as a viewer, I'd much prefer to see them presenting with the sun shining on the banks of the Thames than in a studio.

The news of late hasn't really leant itself to basking in the sun. Moving the show outdoors is best saved for light news days, or perhaps a summer strand rather than the usual Lorraine stand ins.

Also with the show moving to TV Centre they may not want to set precedent when it is something they may not be able to do in the future.

I'd like to see GMB go on a "roadtrip", but I'm not completely sure it would work that well with GMB's fairly news-based focus. There would of-course be the argument of whether the cost to move the show around the country is justified - are people going to care or notice enough to warrant the cost? That said, I think it would work much better with Breakfast, and I think that as the national broadcaster and with perhaps slightly more of a focus on less-serious topics than GMB it would be easier to pull off and justify - but with the BBC budget cuts maybe this too is unlikely?

In the US they occasionally do these. They feature the local towns, interview politicians and show what's good of it. But they always. Have someone back at the studio to report on the serious news.

I'm sure going on the road, maybe renting out space in a pub as a studio where they could broadcast from with an audience. Shows them connecting with the viewers.

I think Channel 9 in Australia Today Show seems to do this twice a year with different locations each day.

I'd watch that, if only to see the reaction to Piers Morgan in different towns!

Good for them! But what attracted so many viewers?? And did it do better that BBC Breakfast?

Oh, heavens, no. It never does anywhere near as well as BBC Breakfast, ratings-wise, but any small change in the number of people watching is good news for the programme. Previously, BBC Breakfast were generally getting somewhere between twice to thrice the number of viewers, now it seems to be about double (still a major improvement). It's doing a heck of a lot better than Daybreak ever did, and that's presumably down to (a) how different an offering GMB is compared to BBC or Sky, and (b) how much major news has taken place recently. The recent change to allow for much longer, more in-depth interviews may have helped, too. Take, for example, the twenty-minute uninterrupted interviews of Michael Gove, and then Tommy Robinson last week.

I couldn't help noticing last week Dan Walker retweeted this ratings comparison posted by a certain person familiar to many TVForum members...

Dan does seem to 'bite' quite regularly at Piers wind ups.

As has been said for years, 'Don't feed the trolls !' Mr Walker doesn't seem to understand that.

Also....
