Sorry if I sound dumb, what is this and when / how will it be used?
Thanks.

The live NC gallery-cam should make its appearance soon. It was being installed on my last shift (Monday 15th Sept). I'm surprised it hasn't made its debut yet.

There's a camera being installed at the back of the News Channel gallery, and the intention is to use it going into breaks, and coming out of breaks at hh:15 and hh:45. So, instead of using prerecorded gallery shots as now, they'll be live.

This is really weird... Sunday's ITV Weekend News is just a 5 minute summary (know it's happened before but it's still weird), and Monday's ITV News is 15 minutes at 22:30, with Regional News and Weather at 23:45! Extremely odd, I imagine the timings would be more like 22:30 - 22:50 and Regional News at 23:50, or there would be a summary of the headlines before/after the Regional News. Also they say Tuesday's News is 35 minutes long, perhaps to make up. Very odd.

It appears that Nicolas Owen is on holiday and Katie Derham is taking over his usual duties.
This includes presenting the ITV Lunchtime news.
Katie is also quite relaxed and throwing in off the cuff remarks.
Today's was a prime example of what she is capable of.
She was conducting a live interview with ITV News US correspondant in North Carolina awaiting the storm but conditions were deteriorating when the microphone sound became really bad so much so that you couldnt understand what they were saying and then the picture froze.
The interview had to be abandoned and then cut back to Katie quickly who apologised and said, "well moving on from stormy waters to more calmer waters" which then she stopped herself and said well they arent really that much calmer, laughed to herself and then tried to continue with that glint in her eye!
I thought she done very well to recover once that link to america broke down and also she is quite quick with her quips just like Nicolas - a great stand-in!

I like the idea of that.
Notice that as per usual this interesting piece of presentation news has gone practically uncommented on. I bet if it was News 24 installing a gallerycam there would be pages and pages of responses!

There seemed to be a problem at 7pm on the News Channel, they played the break filler (featuring the old style graphics) but rather than playing the audio with it we could hear Rachel McTavish talking to someone saying, 'Ok, that's great. Yes'.
Then, just before going to the weather if stuck on the sponser screen, and Rachel gave a brief summary of the weather.

News Channel Gallery-cam Latest
It's been nailed to the wall (ceiling, actually) and works (sort-of), but it looks like utter sh!te. The gallery's far too dark so the image isn't great. Plus, they haven't got the graphics together to key "Breaking News for Britain" over it yet. My guess is that it'll be a while before it's used, if at all.

Does anyone who works at ITN know anything about the dual-anchoring that has been taking place recently? Is it a test to see if it works, or just something to ensure all the presenters do a certain amount of hours per week?
FR
It's a test for "future plans". Of course, lowly mortals like me aren't privy to what those plans might be.

Also somebody quoted an article in the Press Gazette about ITV News this week in another thread about a state-of-the-art set to be rolled out early next year. Any details on this yet, or is it all under wraps, or not even at the drawing board stage yet ?
