I wasn't on about the aspect of the news ratio

Erm, yes you were.

Yes but you put it out of context

sort out the aspect ratio of their news service, bring back shows like Dempsey and Makepeace which used to pull in more then 15 million viewers, get rid of those stupid idents and bring back local pride to the regions, give us our logos back!

Not really.

...yeah, like THAT will ever happen in today's "dance-around-to-please-the-corporate-suits" era.

You're just as bad as tvarksouthwest.

I don't know why people still bang on about regional branding on ITV in any case.

Branding is nothing without the station behind it. Tyne Tees pres worked because the company it represented was a genuinely local entity with a fierce sense of local pride -- when it was reduced to nothing more than an outdated logo, badly rendered in an afternoon, it became a complete waste of time and I wasn't sad to see it go.

If "regional branding" a return means 2000-era GMG North-style "regional" idents, produced in a graphics department in London and presented, badly, by a transmission centre in a remote part of the country that produced bulk presentation for more than half-a-dozen sub-regions, then I say leave it as it is. At least the centralised playout centre in London is competent.

Competent - depends how you define the word. If for example, as discussed in other postings, in Wales sticking the text 'WALES' on the bottom of a networked ident either too late or not at all and sometimes letting it stay on screen when the programme has started - or even playing a Wales announcement over the English one at the same time is competent - then yes London playout are doing a marvellous job.

Competant in terms of ITV means "doing a better job that Yorkshire did with Tyne Tees in the C3NE era..."

which isn't difficult.

Anyway, back on topic: even though presentational changes have been denied, I would not be too surprised to see some tweaks when the new schedules and News programmes launch.

For me an absolute priority is to unify the ECP policy for all shows and also, as a matter of urgency, to remove the requirement to use ITV branded 'Previously' and 'Next week' blue straps - they are hideous monstrosities.

I think the ITV1 endcaps and menus could do with a bit of a refresh as well.

What would everyone else like to see presentation-wise next year?

For me change the ident music or at least have variations - better still get rid of the current set and have an animated logo with a good fanfare - kind of like:

LWT

I agree with the refresh to the menus, etc. I'm not sure what they could do with yellow. All of the other channels use a different shade of the colour of the logo, but I'm I've attempted this and it doesn't look nice.
Maybe they should think of a colour change for the logo? Though that would muck up the idents. Or maybe they should just go the opositte end of the scale and use white.

The credits need tidying up, I don't understand why it's just the soaps, or is it a trial at the moment? Surely they're having to produce promotional material twice to appear on the two types of ECP. As for the next time and previously, I like how they're all unified, but maybe rejigging it to suit the new credit design, so that it's just a black bar, maybe centralising it.

I'd like to see them put more effort in the graphics. As has been mentioned before, the BBC's new ECP may squash credits and make them unreadable, but at least they have designed it so that it animates and looks lovely on screen, where ITV are just using powerpoint style effects. It's the same with the news and sport, they could do with a software upgrade to make them see that there are more programmes out there to use.

I would personally love them to scrap the current idents and have something unique, and totally different with a range of idents that can be used to introduce different types of programmes.

I'd also like to see them stop wasting the in programme banner by just putting random information such as 'new series of 60 minute makeover on monday' or 'coronation street tonight at 7.30' without then promoting what's on next. It's useful, but whilst it's covering the programme, you may as well use it properly.

ITV is to relaunch its flagship channel in January with a raft of new and returning programming, in what it has described as its strongest schedules for years.

Drama will be at the heart of ITV1's relaunched schedules from January with old favourites like Cold Blood, Midsomer Murders, Taggart, Trial & Retribution and Wire in the Blood returning. Recent hits Primeval and Kingdom will also be back in January for extended series.

New drama series include unique Kudos pair Echo Beach and Moving Wallpaper which boasts an all-star cast, Honest and The Palace. All these shows join cherished ITV1 bankers Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Heartbeat and The Bill.

Some factual commissions of note for January include Sandbanks, Jeff Randall: Repossessions and a new series of Ladette To Lady.

Entertainment from January will come from returning shows You've Been Framed, Al Murray’s Happy Hour, Harry Hill's TV Burp, It'll be All Right on the Night and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? with new formats such as Duel. The ratings winning Dancing on Ice will also return.

Daytime gets an overhaul too, with now-favourites such as The Jeremy Kyle Show, This Morning and Loose Women being joined by the return of Golden Balls, Wish You Were Here and a new spin-off soap The Royal Today. As well as CITV for younger viewers, drama repeats of Midsomer Murders, Lewis and Primeval will be on offer.

ITV News on ITV1 is to receive an overhaul in 2008 too, one of the biggest changes being the return of News at Ten every weeknight. Presented by a team that includes Julie Etchingham, Sir Trevor McDonald and Mark Austin, it promises to be the mainstay of the channel's primetime schedule.

Also, some info on 2008 commissions. Looks like a lot of longer commissions.

Q1 2008

Moving Wallpaper - 13x60
Echo Beach - 13x60
The Palace - 8x60
Primeval - 7x60
Swingtown - 13x60 (potentially 22x60)
Harry Hill - 14x30
Rock Rivals - 8x60
CGI UK - 8x30

Q2 2008

Pushing Daisies - 22x60
Benidorm - 8x30

Q3 2008

Harley Street - 6x60

Still no details on schedule changes, but I can't understand how Echo Beach and Moving Wallpaper will work with both shows being 1 hour long. I thought they were half an hour each. They are supposed to air together, but perhaps they will just run over two consecutive nights at 9pm.

The Bill needs to lose an episode and maybe even establish itself in a new home, it is shunted around too much and needs a secure slot where it will not be moved around I think.

Interesting to see two US shows in the list, wonder if they're going at 9pm or 10.30pm. Pushing Daisies could be a huge hit for ITV1, it's doing well Stateside.

Any news on the popular drama 'Fat Friends' the last I heard, the production team were up for another series, but it had been 'unconfirmed' by ITV - any news?

Will 'Bad Lads' Army' not be returning, I thought it was quite good, the male offering to 'Laddette to Lady' I thought!
