ITV's current presentation

I've heard him in adverts and promos, and he suits being a promo voice but in terms of continuity he just doesn't cut it (IMO).

He tends to cram all his script into a shorter time period despite having a bit of breathing room in the end credits, if he slowed down or tightened his script and use better intonation, the problems would be solved.

But then again ITV Continuity seems to think it's fine. 🤷‍♂️

Liking the new ident, and like other have said it's nice to have it feature outside. I hope that's a recurring theme this year.

Also came to say about how bad that announcer is. Surely to be an announcer you have to be able to speak properly and clearly and say things correctly. He couldn't even say Torville right, sounded like he says 'torviell. Do ITV honestly think he's suitable? Well clearly they must as he's been in the job for a while now.

He just blurts out the script with no thought whatsoever on delivery or the actual content. Shockingly bad. There seems to be no presentation style remit for ITV announcers - and apart from Andrea and Andrew the current team are pretty poor. When you think of the announcers who were replaced like Steph Bower, Mark Manchester and Dominic Green, standards have certainly dropped.

Totally agree about announcers they've had in the past, the three you mentioned are some of my faves from the channel since I became interested in TV pres, especially Mark Manchester, I spoke to him quite a lot on Twitter and he was so lovely and gave me such an insight into the world of tv pres and continuity. He even wrote a couple of announcements which contained bits i'd mentioned to him which I loved.

These are just my opinions but I do think its down to box ticking - forget the main job requirements have we got this style of voice? Do we cover regional accents? Are we covering demographics? etc etc.

If you think back a few years there were virtually no regional accents on ITV (apart from STV and UTV obviously). When ITV took over presentation for UTV we had for a time, two Irish voices - Dave Johnson and a female voice - she didn't last long and Dave has since moved over to the BBC National team.

Ever since the year dot BBC Wales, NI and Scotland had their own regional accents predominantly as the main voices of the station - BBC Network only over the last few years has introduced regional accents to its announcing team - it was never heard of before and for the main part this has worked well as they 'fit' in the overall presentation style.

ITV on the other hand doesn't really have a remit style the Irish voices have gone, Scottish Steph has departed and we are left with Andrew and his wonderful Geordie voice (probably the best male voice on the ITV team). Shouty in your face BBC Three style presentation seems to be vogue at the moment but it doesn't suit ITV - maybe ITV 2 and ITV Be.

ITV has a good logo and idents but the weakest on air team (Andrew and Andrea being the strongest). When such talent has left the building over recent years I question whether its all down to box ticking and trying to sound as diverse as possible - nothing wrong with that as long as the right people can pull this off - at the moment they can't IMHO.

Oh and I agree with the comments about Mark Manchester - a true gentleman.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the continuity announcer IMO.

Not a huge fan of this ident though - it's almost ITV Creates crossed with Oneness.

I'd love to be a continuity announcer if I could.

It looks like this year has a theme of collaboration:
Quote:

Every month there will be new ITV idents created by a new range of British artists - however, this time the artists will be asked who they would like to collaborate with, this could be anyone from a dancer to a scientist. The aim of the collaboration is that two completely different worlds collide and come together to create their own interpretation of the ITV logo. In a year of isolation, let’s celebrate working together.

They've definitely updated the music for all of the idents, including the news safe.

Despite the new ident, there is still a dusting of snow over the ECPs and break bumpers

Are the announcer we're all talking about by any chance? Think your cover has been blown.

Shouty, awful pace, terrible delivery of the lines. I'm convinced this guy gets worse every time he posts.

I'm not a he dear!

Watching the idents tonight, with the professional Andrea in the booth, I must say I'm liking them so far and and new updated soundtrack. I was dreading another year of ITV Creates but if the rest of the year features mainly outside filmed idents I think they will be much improved compared to the confined studio filmed ones.

I wonder if there will be new ones every week, or whether they will still slot in old ones.

Due to all the various special weeks and new ones they did last year, there are still quite a few from 2019 that didn’t get a second airing

The ITV Creates site seems to imply it will be every month the idents will change, rather then weekly for 2021.

I'd rather it be monthly tbh, rather then weekly as you end up with some weeks of good ones, then weeks of poor ones. Being monthly I hope/would like to think the quality control for each set will be much better.
